I've got a question.

Yesterday I went to my Internist.  I had a bad cold in January, but I'm still coughing, tired, wheezy....  She wants to put me on Advair for a week and see if that helps.  But then she thought about it and said, "do you mind if we do a CXR, just to look".  So needless to say I got the CXR and they saw a pretty big mass on the right side (the side she heard the wheezing) pushing up on my lung.

Her thought is that my diaphragm has shifted over or a large hernia.  So I have to get a CT scan next week.  See my GI for a poss EGD and call and report in to my surgeon.

My question is, has this happened to anyone???  What was the outcome??

Thanks,

Edie

Wow!  I'm so sorry you're feeling sick.  But it sounds like your doc is being proactive rather than just treating your symptoms.  Hopefully it turns out to be nothing serious.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  Keep us posted on how the tests go.

Thanks Pam,

I actually feel fine, just coughing and wheezy occasionally, especially when working out, but not exclusively.  I actually felt a bit foolish keeping the appointment because I wasn't sick, but wanted to get the cough out of the way before the pollen started flying.  I thought the CXR was a bit over the edge.  But having a hx of cancer I guess she wanted to be cautious.

Now I'm glad I went

I have heard of a hernia causing the effects you describe, in fact it was a family member before she had WSL. Her hernia was repaired during her WSL and the problem went away. With as many surgeries as Dr. Krause has done I am sure that he will be familiar. See Dr. Krause as soon as you can. Keep us informed as to how you do. My prayers are for a speedy recovery for you.

Thanks Nick,

I hope I don't need to use Dr. Krause.  But I'm afraid that I'll need surgery either way (diaphragm or hernia).  I did call his office and told them about what was going on, all the tests and appointments she wanted to me have and that I'd get him copies of everything and let them know the outcome.

I'm just bummed because I'm really enjoying my walks outside right now.  I'm really in a good workout mindset right now and I can fall off that wagon so easy w/o a good excuse .

This is not an excuse to "fall off the wagon"! You can hang in there through this what ever way that things turn out. Look how far you have come!!! I know you will be ok. And I will not accept anything less from you, as you are one of my idols here!

OK that's a bit corny and just a small stretch, but I do think a lot of your success.

Hey even surgery does not have to stop you from your walks. Now don't make me walk over to Clarkston from Oxford to shame you into walking after surgery if you have to have it.
Just walk over here and save me the trouble.

Thanks for the pep talk, and the compliments, and yes idol is way too much!

I'm just bummed that I may need surgery again.  I'm watching my hubby struggle, he's 3 weeks out and not allowed to to any abdominal work yet, he's only allowed to walk and the elliptical.

Anyways thanks,

Edie

Edie I'm sorry to hear you are having problems.  Hopefully you won't need more surgery.

Your husband is only three weeks out and they are letting him use the elliptical already?  I'm feeling like such a baby.  I was told not do use it and only to walk for 6 weeks.  But, everyone else seems to be able to and your DH had a more complected surgery than me.

My hubby's surgeon told him that he could do anything he wanted aerobically (as long as it didn't hurt), but no abdominal work or lifting weights for 5-6 weeks.

Sorry you are coughing. Here's another twist..

Whooping cough is going around Livingston County  so though you do not live there it could be something to tell your doc about as things travel...  One case I know of.. My boss's 12 yr old son (who IS current on his shots) has it and it spread to his brother. For the 1st week the doc thought it was his asthma but after a week of not getting better they did a culture and sadly it was whooping cough. By then his 6 yr old brother was also coughing.  It is highly contagious and so they are treatng the entire family & the health dept is involved as so many others in the county have it.. Good news though is once you have it you won't get it again.

Feel better soon.
