wheel's in motion
last night was the last in a long list of things to do stress test, psych eval and last but not least last night did my sleep apnea test. now i just have to meet with my dietitian for 5 months and its on and poppin lookin at sept for my surgery.right now I'm researching lap band or gastric bypass because of my bmi 43 those are my options it seems like the lap band could be a pain with slippage and fills and port leakage i have 5 months to continue the research wish my luck.
Congratulations for getting those things out of the way!! There are also 2 other surgeries to consider-VSG(sleeve) & DS(duodenal switch). I didn't know about either of these surgeries until I went to surgical orientation. Just wanted to mention them in case they're of any interest to you! There are many on this board if with all 4 of the surgeries so if you have questions, feel free to ask!! FYI-my BMI was 42 w/no comorditities when I got approved for my DS, it was 43 by the time I had my surgery(oops!).
I agree with you on the lap band. My friend had it and it's a pain to always go back for fills, for the rest of your life. My idea is do the gastric bypass (rny) and be finished with it. My dr. doesn't do the sleeve or the switch so I really didn't have the other options. I had pretty much made up my mind on the rny anyway. It's a long process in my opinion.
Glad to hear you have jumped thru most of the hoops already.
I did a lot of research and found it to be a very hard decision to make. I got the band because I didn't want to deal with the re plumbing, malabsorption and testing and talking all the pills required. My sister had the DS and that is why I didn't pursue it. At the time my center didn't do the DS or VSG either and it would have been a major deal trying to get either. They are starting to do the VSG but, you have to be over a BMI of 50 and I wasn't willing to gain more weight to get approved.

No I haven't slipped. I am newly banded. I have read some that have on the lap band boards. Almost always they just unfill it for a couple weeks or so until it goes back and than start the fills again.
Yes, I was referring to the vitamins. With the RNY you have to keep a close watch on your labs and take supplements accordingly. Most of my Support group is RNY and all our meetings so far have dealt with nutrition and supplemental issues. Last time we got a daily schedule of when to take which supplements and which ones with which other ones and which alone. They do have a support group every other month for just banders but, I have only been to one of them. I've met some great RNY'ers thru these boards and the support groups. Go to the ones in yous in your area every chance you can.
As I said it was very, very hard to pick between the two. Spend a lot of time research independently and also a lot of time on both boards. Both had pros and cons. Only you can decide what is best for you.
