Edie - protein shakes question

Hi Edie -

I was reading Jan's post about protein shakes and am going to try the Silk choc milk idea you gave with protein powder and some frozen fruit.  Do you add ice to it or just the frozen fruit?

I am having so much trouble getting my protein in since surgery....I'm gagging down some shakes but I definitely don't get all the protein in I'm supposed to.  I'm gonna try your recipe because they sound yummy!!

What kind of protein powder do you use??  Right now I have Unjury unflavored, but I am going to go today and buy some Vanilla flavored.

Thanks for posting...I appreciate the tips!!

Sorry it took so long to respond, I had a Dr's appt. this am and she had fun finding all kinds of tests to run, and my day at work was very busy so I didn't get time to get on line today until 8PM tonight.  Again, Sorry!!!

The protein powder I use is a whey protein isolet (the isolet means it's more pure) but because your a bander you don't really need the isolet (be happy, it's cheaper if you don't need isolet :)).

As far as the ice...no I don't use ice.  I use fz fruit so I don't need to :O).  T save some money I buy my blueberries (which are great for you) at Costco, they have a huge bag for just a few bucks.  But as I said before sometimes I use fz cherries and fz pineapple with the chocolate milk and  YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY!

Good luck,

Edie

If you PM me I'll be happy to give you my ph #'s so you don't have to wait all day for an answer!

Thanks for replying!  I can't wait to try a shake tomorrow.  I bought some frozen fruits at the store tonight on the way home from work.  BTW, I am an RNY'er not a bander :-)   I think if I can get this protein requirement under control I will feel so much more energetic.  I just feel tired (granted, I'm only about 2 1/2 weeks)  but I think  the lack of protein is why I feel so tired.

Again, THANKS!  I'll let you know after I've tried them.  I also bought the ingredients tonight for Pam's Chai tea.....oh, is that ever good!  So between that and your recipe, I think I've found the answer to my protein problem!

Nan,

I don't know what I was thinking about the bander comment.  Brain fart :)

I've read on other sites that at about week 3 you get what they call "hibernation" syndrome and it can last a couple weeks.  The way they describe it is that your body is sooooo used to you cheating by now (from past diets), and because you haven't cheated yet, it now knows your serious about this whole thing.  It's SLOWS WAY DOWN, so everything slows down, energy, metabolism.... after a couple of weeks when it realizes your still serious, it starts feeling normal again.  You'll prob. notice that your weight loss will slow down a bit during this "hibernation" time too!

Just ride it out, you'll get there!!

Oh, and I hope you like your shake tomm.  I LOVE the silk chocolate by itself, it's like dessert!
