Appreciation
Welcome, Jani. Just like you, most of us don't have much of importance to say, but we say it anyway, so join right in. ![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/rofl2.gif)
Before WLS I had so many last meals it wasn't funny. You sound completely normal to me. In fact, one of my fantasies is what I would have if I were on death row and could have a "last meal" just one more time.

Hi Jani:
My doctor made us go on this two-week supplemented fast pre-op and actually it wasn't all that bad (although you might hear differently from other patients ... my only problem was giving up caffeine). But yes, I had my "last supper" before that "fast" and actually didn't overdo it because I didn't have much money to spend on it. And then I cleaned out my pantry and freezer and brought all the junk food into work and gave it to my coworkers. It got snapped up quickly! (The frozen stuff was spoken for early.) I didn't regret a bit.
However, I did go into counseling while I was waiting for insurance to approve me, and it was well worthwhile. I'm still in therapy, because I still deal with the same issues and I don't want to backslide. I am nearly 5 years out and I worry about regaining the weight (I haven't). So I work on it with my psychologist to find the answers to my emotional eating (and spending).
And I haven't been able to exercise as much as I would have liked to because of my bad knees and two knee replacement surgeries on the same knee since Feb. 2007 (the second last December). So I gotta get back on that horse!
Use this surgery as your incentive. If even just baby steps ... do little things as you wait for surgery. Use a smaller plate (I have a friend who has been doing this and lost 32 pounds ... she has not had WLS, she had a kidney transplant and the drugs make her gain weight). Try not drinking with your meals (this is something you'll have to get used to anyway possibly. Chew everything 32 times. Just a few tricks.
These are things people told me before I had surgery, and I ignored them ... wish I had listened. I'm happy I had the surgery, really, because it saved my life. It gave me a whole new life. Welcome to the club!

I've been thinking of getting the whey protien and beginning a diet using that, just to get a jump on things (somewhat). I don't want to go on too strict of a diet right now, until I absolutely have to.
I think counseling is a good idea. I'll probably seek someone out after surgery. My daughter-in-law is a psychologist and I keep telling her to analyze me, but ..... she already knows I'm crazy and can't change it.![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/angel2.gif)
I have a bad knee, bad hip, & had surgery on both feet in Dec '08. It's hard for me to do some of the exercises at the gym, but I'm trying. Today was my first workout and my neck and shoulders hurt from the weight workout. I'll get through this.
I've been doing the chewing, but I'm going to have major problems with not drinking with my meals. MAJOR PROBLEM. I'll make it through, but it'll be tough.

Ya know, I thought I would have a problem with not drinking with meals, but you get used to it. Doesn't bother me at all now. I just don't do it. It's a habit.
Can you get to a pool? Water exercise is easy on the joints (I used to swim and water walk, but can't afford the Y right now). It's a good workout because you get resistance and aerobics in one fell swoop.
