Hello neighbor,

It all comes down to YOU and only you.  The further you get out, the more you will be able to eat.  As long as you are aware of everything and follow the rules, you will be o.k.

People did say these things to me.  I work with about 20 people that have had the surgery, and I see a few that have gained, but I still would go thru this.  It feels so great to finally be healthy.  The things I can do now, that I never thought about doing are amazing.  Even the bedroom stuff is amazing.  Sorry TMI.  I wouldn't change it for the world.  Sure I get sick-every so often, sure i get gas, but you learn how to deal with these things.  You learn what you can tolerate and what you cannot.

Maybe your friend wants to to know it's not a walk in the park.  The walk does get easier and
it's so worth the journey.  Don't second guess your decission on the surgery.
Good luck and God Bless...............

Hello,
Don't let one person sway your decision!  Do your research of all the WLS options and find the one that is best for you.  You know yourself the best.  It is important to build a support system.  The OH forum is great.  I am planning to have the DS~waiting for insurance approval.  I first looked at the lap band and as researched and looked at all the options I found the one that I know will work for me.

Ya know, a friend of mine gave me a book that told me some of the many problems that could go wrong with the surgery. She wanted me to be informed. Well, I started reading the book and it was hard to get through because it was so poorly written (I'm an editor) I couldn't stand to read it. And then I decided, I was as informed as I wanted to be.

I had read several other books written by medical professionals who gave the pros and cons of the surgery. And I went with my gut (so to speak). I was so desperate to lose weight. I had failed at every other attempt. I was literally crushing myself (spine and knees and feet) with my weight. I was going to end up in a wheelchair. My mother told me I'd gain it all back (thanks mom!) I didn't care. I read about having gas, dumping, etc. ... didn't care.

Today, I've lost 180 pounds. I still have spinal arthritis and degenerative disc disease in my back, but the disc compression is much less because of the weight loss. I still have arthritic knees, but I was able to have the knee replacement (jury's still out on how that's gone, I've had two surgeries on the same knee). My body is much better off ... and I have not gained it back, mom! She's very proud of my progress. I am determined to prove her wrong.

There are those who do gain it back. We have one at work here who had the surgery and did gain it back. Well, I won't let myself be one of those. I can eat just about anything. Nothing bothers me. I choose not to eat some things and others I eat in much smaller portions. I love my new life.

You make your decision based on what you want, what you believe, not what your friend believes. My friend tried to talk me out of it with the book. It wasn't for her ... but it was for me.

It's your call.
