Help
I am wondering........ How much help did you need at home after your wls and for how long? Will it be okay for me to be at home by myself. I can call someone if I need help, plus hubby comes home for lunch..... Is this enough? I am thinking that I could send my two little guys (they are one and three) to daycare for the first week anyway and just rest, read, walk and heal. So what do you think? also..... How long did you stay home before returning to work? I am hoping two weeks or less will be enough for me. I'm a planner, can you tell? lol

I'm a planner too! I needed help the first few days after WLS. I think you'll be fine to be home by yourself because you'll basically sleep the day away so your hubby coming home on lunch may suffice. Yes, I would say send the kids to daycare but for how long will depend on how you're feeling. I was happy my children were in school it's very hard to take care of children on the meds. I was off 4 weeks but probably could've forced myself back in 2. I'm glad I didn't but I will tell you............I'm exhausted now that I have returned to work.
Hope this helps.

I had lap RNY, and I was back to work in 2 weeks. I am an accountant and sit most all days. I did a couple half days to start back and it was draining.
You need your rest, so get those lil guys to day care, you won't be up to lifting or playing with them. I took over my son's bedroom for a week so I could rest. He got to sleep with daddy so it was a treat for him. I made my "nest" as my hubby called it and was good to go. He was home a day or so with me, but I don't remember really needing him for anything. Its not like you will be cooking or anything like that.
Best of luck

We write our own destiny. We become what we do.
If you can have your surgery on a Thur or Fri and your hubby can stay w/ you until Monday, you should be fine on your own after that. But the kids definitely have to go to daycare. You won't be able to pick up anything over 10-15 lbs for the first few weeks.
As far as work goes. I also have a desk job. My surgery was on a Thur, so needless to say I was off that day and the next week. When I went back to work I was exhausted the first few days, and more than likely left early those days, went home and laid down. And as I recall at about the 3rd and 4th weeks post op, I was tired. Some people call it "hibernation syndrome", that it's when your body realizes your not going back to your old ways and it slows down to compensate for the lack of calories you are giving it. But you will adjust, it takes a few weeks, but you'll get there.
Good luck,
Edie

I had my education class yesterday and was it ever enlightening. The nurse said that you should probably take the full four weeks off, if you can afford it. That way you definately don't over-do it. This is major surgery, whether done laporosciply or open. You need time to heal. Just make sure not to overdo things.
I went to my 2 week post op check up yesterday and was told 4 more weeks not picking up more than 5 pounds. I had been told 4 week at one point but have been told 6 week at the class, hospital and follow up. My guess is they lowered the weight and added time to help reduce hernias.
I normally babysit my grandsons and I had told my daughter I couldn'****ch them for four weeks. She spazed when I told her six weeks. You really need help with the little guys if at all possible. You don't want to have hernias repaired if you can avoid them
