Henry Ford Hospital Surgeons

Hello,

I wanted to know if I haven't completely met my pre-surgical weight loss goal, will they postpone the surgery?  Even if there has been some progress?

Also, I'd like to know about some good tasting protein supplements that I can start to try.  I meet with the surgeon again on March 20th as my last appointment before surgery.

Thanks,

Sorry, I'm not answering your question.  I have a question of my own for you.  Since you specified Henry Ford Hospital Surgeons, I wanted to know how long after you went to your orientation/education class did you meet with the surgeon for the first time?  Was it Dr. Genaw?  he's the one I've been referred to.  I tried all diets including the Henry Ford one to no avail.  I've been approved, I'm just curious how long between the orientation and the meeting with the surgeon and then the surgery date.  Henry Ford seems to put you through a lot before you actually get scheduled for the surgery.

After I was at the 4 hour rn/dietician meeting, at the end of the class, they scheduled me to see dr carlin, (I said first available for either dr) and the appt was set for 2 months later.  Do ALL your requirements right away to just get them done and over with.  If you were approved/referred to dr genaw, you can see dr carlin too, they are on the same team--They are too funny :)

ANyhow, from the time I first called henry ford for the info packet til my surgery was 6 months.  So, again.... just get all your requirements done right away...

My Best to you, you will be in great hands!
Christina

Christina, what specifically are the requirements you refer to?  Maybe I can have some completed before my 4 hour orientation.  I've filled out all the forms they sent me in the packet and wrote the letter of intent and read the book.  Anything more?
Thanks for responding.

I had to have  a  sleep apnea test.     Your psych evaluation ( I had it done at henry ford with dr. eshelman).  In their requirements you will learn at the 4 hour You MUST join a gym of some type so they can see that you are serious. (I joined the YMCA), but there is curves and the others.... and make sure that you have met your medically supervised weight loss for your insurance company.

This is what I was referring too... I had ALL of it done before I seen him at my first appt.  They said it sped things through rather quickly.

Hugs,
Christina

Cool, I've had all of what you speak of done.  I had a sleep apnea test a few years ago.  I had my psych eval at Henry ford too.  I have a lifetime membership to Fitness USA (my membership card has cob webs on it right now).  HAP wouldn't approve me without the medically supervised weight loss program and they have approved me, so it sounds like I've got everything in line.  I have my 4 hour meeting on Tuesday, 3-10.  I'm really anxious.

Don't mean to get off topic here, but they MAKE you join a gym?  To me, that is just insane.  I understand wanting to see committment, but that's awful!

I'm not sure about that MAKING you join a gym.  I'm going through the process as we speak, the only thing left for me to do is to see the surgeon for the last time.  As for exercise, they wanted you to see the exercise physiologist or have an exercise plan that shows that you were doing some physical activity...it could come from a gym.  No one has asked to verify a gym membership, you are just suppose to be working toward your goal and be committed.  Besides, I'm sure we've all had or have a membership that hasn't been used, so I would think that just joining one would not be sufficient.

So gurl, do you expect to get your surgery date at this next appointment?  It seems to be a really slow process.  Don't they realize this weight is life threatening???

Yes, hopefully!  I'm trying to lose the 16 lbs. it's not going so well for me right now.  I'm trying everything and the weight is not coming off!  I've just about decided that it's probably going to be postponed cause my body is not cooperating.  I've got all these hormonal things going on, which is why I have problems losing anyway! Go figure!
