Does any one no if the bariatric department doctors at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit have a "medically supervised weight-loss" requirement??? I know that the insurance company does, but I am going to pay for the surgery out of pocket to avoid some of the red tape and every time I call Henry Ford everybody is sooo busy.

I know before my insurance would approve me I had to do the 'medically supervised weight-loss' program, but I'm not sure if the Hospital has that requirement or not.  Just keep calling.  I kept getting voice mail, but kept calling until I got a live person.  Perseverance you know.

I have no idea if they have a program like you are describing, but I had difficulty getting a hold of Wanda, the nurse manager of the Bariatric Centre at HFH Detroit. I found it was best to contact her by email, then she gets back to you fairly quickly.

her email is [email protected]

Give that a try, good luck!!!

HI - I had HAP and went through Henry Ford Health System's Weight Management Program for a year at the facility in Livonia.  I popped in twice a month to see the exercise physiologist, she talked to me about my diet and exercise, how I was doing and gave me a handout at every visit.  I believe there is a facility downtown, too.

When my Bariatric surgeon received the printout from HAP he was very happy with how the notes were taken and presented.  It must have been great because the month my year ended, my insurance changed and the new insurance accepted the documentation from HAP and approved me on the first try.

There was a $25 registration fee that I paid myself and any further costs were paid for by HAP.

Maybe this link will help:
