chewable / liquid iron
recent bloodwork shows that despite the 63 mg i take everday, my iron is still low. my doctor wants me to take almost 200 mg per day. i'm wondering if anyone here uses a liquid or chewable iron that tey particularly like, preferably one that is also a pretty good dose per serving so that i won't have to take it ten times a day...
Sorry, don't have any recommendations, but I hope that your body likes iron better than mine. If I had to take that much I would have to get supply of ducalax to take with it.
May I ask how low your iron is? I have an appt with Dr. Pop next month, and I am worried about that issue. I normally run low iron anyways.
Hope you get your answer

I'd suggest checking out Vitalady's products. Many swear by the Tender Iron as being gentle on the tummy.

Also make sure you're following the "Iron Rules". Charlie (from the Main Board) posted her iron rules a few weeks ago and she's finally been able to keep her levels up where they need to be. She crushes her iron pills (so chewables would be better than pills, I'd assume) and follows these rules:
- No multi vitamin or calcium supplement within 2 hours of iron…before or after.
- No dairy products of any kind within 2 hours of iron. That means no yogurt, milk, cottage cheese, sour cream, cheese, butter...nothing.
- No coffee or tea within 2 hours. It's the tannic acid, not the caffeine...so not even decaf.
- Take iron with acid to give it the best possible chance to absorb. (Vitamin C or citrus)
- Open the capsule, crush the pill or take in liquid form.

My iron stays low too...My ferratin was at 9...My PCP put me on Nefirex...its a RX....Since I take Wellbutrin, and the Nifirex...boy did that do a job on my tummy...He rechecked my levels after being on the pills for 3 months and they had gone up, so he cut me from 3 times a week to once a week...weel my fault alone, I quit taking the Niferex all together...i could not stand the way my tummy felt.

I had a post op bleed and left the hospital anemic, it took a year post op, but I finally got my numbers back up in the normal range (now my goal is to be a bit high!).
My routine is to take my iron as soon as I wake up w/ a vit C and the smallest sip of water. I also added meat to my diet, I made sure I got meat in every day (I still take my iron daily and try to eat meat 2-3 times a week).
I agree with the iron rules Pam noted. I'm not as strict on the 2 hours, I always give it at least 45 min's alone in my body. I do the same thing with my meals, I actually try to give my meals (w/ meat) 1 to 1.5 hours before drinking anything.
I'm at work so I don't have the dosage I take, but I buy them at baratric advantage, their grape flavor and are pretty tasty.
As I said, it took a year to get my numbers (ferratin) up, and I was diligent the entire time.
Good luck,
Edie

I take an iron from Bariatric Advantage that has 59g of iron in it and are very tasty. Probably the best tasting chewable I take of all my vitamins.
I try to follow the rules Pam has given, and I typically take mine at night, before I go to bed with 1000cc of Vitamin C.
I just ordered some from Vitalady (Tender Iron) but haven't tried them yet. I hear they're not as apt to clog you up..
