Bev, The diet is to shrink the liver so it does not get nicked during surgery... It is vary important to stick too . This is a major surgery and you do not want any compactions to arise from not following the diet ... Good luck and Keep us posted

PS. We all had to do it too...

Well, I didn't have to do it...the liquid diet, that is.  It was not a requirement when I had surgery 3 years ago.  But it seems that it's a requirement for most nowadays.  The only thing I had to do was eat light for 24 hours and liquids the day before surgery.

Hi Bev,

I start my 2 week liquid diet tomorrow!   I've heard it's awful :-)   I have to do 3 shakes a day, a soup and a fiber drink.  Plus at least 64 oz water.  I and have other things such as crystal light, SF popsicles or jello but that's it.
I agree with Randy's post, it is to shrink the liver and make your surgery safe.  My NUT said they will do bloodwork the morning of surgery to make sure you complied with pre-op diet and if not could cancel your surgery.  That's enough to keep me stickin' to it!

The presurgry diet wasn't that bad for me. I made my shakes very thick, with lots of ice, in a blender, so that they would be more filling. I added in flavors, teaspoon of either sugar free pudding mix, Crystal Light, or a dash of sugar free syrup (I use DiVinci brand). Sometimes I augment with baking spices. By combining the flavors I had quite a variety. A little apple flavor with nutmeg and Cinnamon can taste like apple pie. two weeks pass before you know it and then your journey takes off, and so does the weight loss, My only hard part is still wondering why did I have to wait so long to do this?

Nick's sugestions on the DiVinci sugar free syrup have made the last two week so much less monotinous.  Other Brand were suggested to me but this is the one I could find in local stores.

All the product Nan and I use came in a kit Hurley put togeather for us thru betterMD.  Others here had to go out and buy all the supplies.

Could luck and if I can do it anybody can!!!!!!!!!!!!!
