Showed them my card and still would not accept the fact i cannot even eat a children portion,so we left and WILL not go back!!
On edit: is there a list of the resturants that don't support us somewhere. If not we need to start one! In these difficult times seems like they would want any and all business they can get?

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them not accepting your card.  There are actually a lot of restaurants that won't accept it.  I guess they are really under no obligation to accomodate our special diet needs, although it'd be nice if they allowed us to order half portions or something.   Most restaurants will let you substitute certain things on an entree for something healther -- for instance they will replace a baked potato with steamed veggies, or hold the pasta and give you a side salad instead.  Just gotta ask.

I have never bothered using my bariatric card -- in fact, I don't even bother carrying it with me.  I figured I spent 37 years of my life over-eating at restaurants, so I got my money's worth.  LOL!  I can also usually find something on the menu to order that works for me.  An appetizer, a side dish, a bowl of soup and side salad.... or even just a normal size entree with a to-go box.  In fact, I love going out and ordering normally and taking the leftover food home for another 2 or 3 meals later in the week.

I started eating out in restaurants when I was about 10-days out from surgery and have always been able to find something on the menu to accomodate my own personal dietary needs.

Not to belabor the point, but I agree with Pam.  I have never used the "restaurant" card.  Restaurants are under no obligation to accept the card, which is why I've never bothered to use it.  Early on, when I would go out, I chose things that reheated well or I shared with someone or ordered an appetizer for my dinner.  Now, I just suck it up and order an entree or share with my hubby.  If you really want to go out and eat, you'll find ways to accomodate.

PRE surgery, I don't ever recall asking to pay more at the all you can eat buffets...so I wouldn't expect them to cut me a deal when I can't eat as much.  LOL!  In the grand scheme of things, tho, it's not that big of a deal, to me.

Sorry you had a bad experience.  Tina

Going out to eat is like a double(or sometimes triple) bonus now. I order my favorite(s) & take home whatever I can't eat. I get at least 2 meals out of 1 entree now, occassionally 3. It's a bargain & I LOVE a bargain!! Really, the kids menu is not that great at any restaurant anyway, so you might as well order the good stuff!!

I hate to sound like a broken record....but.....I LOVE going out and ordering a great meal, because I get to eat that great meal again and sometimes again!

I started getting my steaks cooked med to med rare, I eat the outside of the steak where it's cooked more, so when I reheat it the center doesn't get overcooked, (it just cooks it a bit more).  Then I just add a vege or salad and viola another great meal.

My hubby used to eat all the leftovers, now he knows he'd be in big trouble if he ate my leftovers w/o asking!

Try to make this new way of eating into a positive!

GREAT idea on the steak, thanks!  I go to Logan's on Wednesdays for lunch -- two meals for $13 -- and get two meals of steak that get immediately wrapped to go home.  I just eat the salad, bread, and peanuts for my meal.  I make a hash in the morning with the steak & baked potato, and your idea will make the steak so much better!

I used to eat there a lot but, the food isn't geared towards good health anyway.
