I Need Help
Hello, Thank you for reading this. well where do I start. I'm a stay at home mom and I've been trying to get insurance to cover weight lose surgery. but every insurance company I talk 2 wont cover me or the surgery. My husband was in the army and got out for medical reasons and he is the only one in our family to have insurance, he is going to college so we dont have alot of money. if we had the money I would just pay for it but I dont have 15,000 ish dollars. Just wanted to know what I should do...I feel like I'm stuck :( Thank you for listening and have a great day
Thanks again

There is so much competition for WLS dollars that almost every program has some sort of payment plan for those who have to pay out of pocket, so shop around and see what the programs near you have to offer. You will even see ads for the various programs on this website. Otherwise, you might have to wait until your hubby graduates or one of you has a job that offers you benefits that will cover.
Try getting a part-time job at Starbucks. They provide insurance for even P/T, and their insurance covers WLS after 6 months. Has to be a company owned / stand alone Starbucks though, not the counter in the grocery store kind. Many people, even those with great insurance have gone this route when their own insurance will only cover a WLS they are not interested in, because the Starbucks insurance will cover a DS.
~ I am the proud wife of a Guatemalan, but most people call me Kimberley
Highest Known Weight = 370# / 59.7 bmi @ 5'6"
Current Weight = 168# / 26.4 bmi : fluctuates 5# either way @ 5'7" / more than 90% EWL
Normal BMI (24.9) = 159#: would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.
I my DS. Don't go into WLS without knowing ALL of your options: DSFacts.com
Krista,
While you're exploring ways to finance WLS, I would suggest the following:
1. Find some kind of support group that is for all kinds of weight loss, not just surgical
2. Formulate a worst and best case scenerio for yourself-keep looking for financing options, but you have to plan for not having surgery as well. If you never do have surgery, how will you make yourself the healthiest you can be? It's SO hard-we all know, we've all been there. But please don't hang all of your hopes on WLS. There are other options, although this seems like the best one for many people.
Do your kids have MI Child or Healthy Kids? If so, you might want to talk with someone in that office about getting some kind of insurance for you. I had a health issue years ago and ended up staying just 2 days in the hospital. Because I didn't have insurance it cost me almost $9,000 that I had to pay off a little at a time for YEARS. It pays to have some kind of emergency coverage "just in case". While they may not cover WLS, you could still get a basic policy for yourself.
Good Luck finding what you need!
