Tummy Tuck
I had my tummy tuck on Jan 12th and was wondering approximately how long before you can shower and when does the drainage tubes come out?

Generally after the stitches come out it's shower time. They will give you a time when you have a follow up.
Drains need to reach a specific volume for a day or two then they come out. Mine took a long time. But Ive seen people loose theirs in a week.
Keep them clear.

Hi Kathy,
It depends on who your doctor is, because every doctor has different ideas and rules. You should have gotten discharge instructions that address these issues.
I also had a tummy tuck on January 12. My doctor told me it was ok to shower as soon as I got home, even with the drains in. His rule for pulling drains is when they drain 30cc or less of fluid for 24 hours straight.
You should call your surgeons office if you can't find answers on your discharge paperwork.
Happy recovering!

Hope things are going well on you recovery!!!
Showerwise, give your surgeons office a call and ask. Mine also said as soon as I got home -- well that was delayed a little bit. He wanted me in there and washing with a mild soap as soon as I could.
Drainage tubes will come out when they're ready, lol. I had my surgery on 12-15 and I just had the 3rd of 4 pulled. My next appointment isn't for 2 weeks and I expect for at least the next week I'll be draining at least 70cc+ so I'll have the one tube in for almost 7 weeks. Hopefully that's not the case for you, but just know that you learn to live and accomidate those little tubes coming from your body.
Take things slow and don't pu****! I had some non-common issues occur during my surgery and am anxious to get back to work (only 1 more week!). I was afraid of doing too much too soon but with everything else going on that was really never an option.
Rest up and heal. Don't be afraid to ask you doc/office questions that you have.

Thanks everyone for all the information. I do go to the Dr. on Monday and I guess I'll find out all the info then. I can't wait to take a nice hot shower.
