VSG Anyone????

I am thankful every day for my Sleeve!!! It was the best thing I could have done!
What is the tri-county area? Is that Saginaw-Midland-Bay City? If so, is your doctor out of that area? I have a friend who is very interested in the Sleeve and is in the Saginaw area.

This site is an AWESOME research site, not only do they provide you with info, we also get to talk with people who HAVE it and can provide insight!!
plus, we in Michigan rock!! hahaha

I didn't know that Baker had started to do the VSG, good to know!
Not to get to personal, but some questions popped up when I read this:
-- Did Baker do this on his own, or call in Kemmeter or Foote to help out?
-- Was he concerned about making adjustments to your intestines, so he felt the VSG stomach would give you better weight loss than a stand-alone pouch? Or, was he concerned with your full stomach, opting to sleeve it instead of going with a pouch?
Since this practice is one of the few offering the DS (and the VSG is the same stomach as a DS stomach), and I am one of the few (relative to all the RnYs & LBs out there) DSers, I get a lot of questions asked of me, and just like to keep up with the latest. Especially if Baker is performing the VSG now, as he has a solid reputation as a RnY surgeon.
Good to see you doing so well! You must feel absolutely wonderful.

Highest Known Weight = 370# / 59.7 bmi @ 5'6"
Current Weight = 168# / 26.4 bmi : fluctuates 5# either way @ 5'7" / more than 90% EWL
Normal BMI (24.9) = 159#: would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.

hey Kimberley--
No Baker normally doesnt do VSG's-- this is how i interpreted his decision: Due to my size, the instruments were not quite long enough to reach as far as they needed. That combined with my down-time that i was down, he didnt want to take any time to make that decision.
I'm not sure if Kemmeter or Foote were called in, i think it was just him and Todd that completed it (i have not a clue...lol) Baker has performed our whole family's surgeries (mom, bro, aunt, sis-in-law) They said that if its needed, they can go back and change it to a RNY, but he's been impressed with my loss so far, so i may not need it. (i hope)
I'm EXSTATIC about my loss--this is the scariest, hardest, WONDERFUL & BEST decision i ever made!!
I am loving this new body of mine--getting used to it is the hard part.... BRING ON SPRING!!!! lol
That is actually great for you that you have so many family members that have been there / done that, so you have people close to you that know what you are going through. I checked into Baker when he first opened shop in G.R. (before Kemmeter & Foote joined him), but he only did RnY and that wasn't an option I was willing to consider.
Unless you have medical reason to not consider it, I would hope that you would look into getting the 'switch' portion of the DS done if you are ever to need a revision. Making a pouch out of what you have left of your stomach would be highly unorthodox. Baker has not proctored under a DS surgeon, so doesn't perform the intestinal part (or switch) of the DS. You are doing just great though, so hopefully you will never need to even consider any type of revision!
Thanks for taking the time to answer my nosey questions!
