I was just reading this article in my local paper about this gentleman (a former police officer in our area) who passed away after WLS of a massive heart attack.  I looked up his name on OH and this is his profile - http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/krawdog/

here is the article in my local paper -

Please say a prayer for Officer Crawford's family and friends. He left behind two young sons.

Yes this was a tragedy. I'm having my surgery soon and it made me wonder if I am doing the right thing. I then found out that the heart attack was not surgical related . If he was out and on the beat he probably would have had the attack there as well. I wonder how hw got through all the screening? I pray for his family at the loss. may God bless them.

So sad!!  It is true, when you read stories this tragic, you start to question yourself.  I am still going through the approval stage and hope to have surgery in Feb, but when I hear stories like this it makes me nervious and anxious!

My prayers are going out to his family!!

We had our bariatric support group today which most are Dr. Verseman's patient's. We talked about the unfortunate passing of this young man. It really has saddened us all. But, like our support leader said, Ken Crawford would have wanted us to move forward with our lives and do the things that make us better. This is what he wanted for his life, too.
My husband knew him, as he also works in law enforcement, and says you couldn't find a more decent man.
My prayers are with his family.

A heart attack is a complication of being morbidly obese. Thats why I had the surgery, to reduce the chance of weight related disorders that could take my life.  The key words there are "reduce the chance". We are all mortal and our lives are fragile. We all need to keep this in mind all the time. My pryers are for this young man's family.
