Has anyone had a revison with Dr Pleatman. I'm looking into having a revison  from RNY to a DS. Has anyone had this done with him. MY stoma is dialated and I'm gaining weight. I did consider the stomaphyx but no one I know had good results. They say its a waste of money.

Hi Lorie,

As far as I know, Dr. Pleatman does not perform the DS.  There are only four surgeons, to my knowledge, in Michigan that do, and I don't personally know of anyone using any of these four for a revision from RnY to DS.  As you are probably already aware, DS surgeons are themselves few and far between because of the extra training and skill needed to perform the DS, most especially the intestinal portion.  DS revision surgeons are especially rare -- taking that pouch apart and making certain your pyloric valve can still function, the handling of the delicate stomach tissue yet again, and then making the adjustments to the intestines.

Dr. Hares is on the east side of the state, and has been doing the DS for quite some time.  There is a regular poster on the DS forum that had her surgery, very successfully, with him 8 years ago.  It has been reported that he does do revisions from RnY to DS.  A very well respected surgeon in the bariatric field, Dr. Husted has just relocated his practice from California to Kentucky.  Personally, he is someone I would have on my list of consultations.  There are others I would consider as well, but the proximately of a surgeon with such a highly regarded reputation would put him at the top of my list.

Many, many, many have had very successful revisions though!  I just highly recommend that you seek a skilled revision surgeon.  Please, visit the DS forum and ask any specific questions you may have.  To get you started, here is a thread that was posted concerning revision surgeons: www.obesityhelp.com/forums/ds/a,messageboard/action,replies/board_id,5357/cat_id,4957/topic_id,3808137/

The OP on that thread, Vicki, is the unofficial keeper of the revision information, and is a GREAT resource!  She is very knowledgeable.  Also, if you post an original thread asking specifically for DS revision information, I'm sure a number of people will chime in.

I know of people who have had surgery with Dr. Pleatman and have done well, but I don't think he does the DS.  My surgeon, Dr Lutrzyskowski, in Bloomfield Hills, does the DS.  I had a VSG done.  DR. L is a very accomplished surgeon and has had great success.  His number is 248-322-1543 nad his website is www.oaklandbariatrics.com
Hope this helps
Bernice
