Back home from the hospital, again

 Hey all,

Well, after I posted about being home things went downhill for me pretty quick.  The first time they tried to get my up on my feet Monday I passed out -- well when I got home Wed. I started getting weak even walking to the chair.  Looking back we should've called the surgeon sooner but by the time we did I was having a really rough time staying awake.  I tried to make it to my parent’s car but passed out after two steeps.  We ended up calling 911 and the ambulance took me to St. Joe's in Ann Arbor.  My hemoglobin count was around 9 there and when we finally got to barix about 6 hours later the blood count had dropped to 7.  They ended up giving me 4 units of blood.  I've gotten steadily stronger and felt better since the blood.  We're not really sure why the blood level dropped so much, I did have drainage Wed but not anywhere near 4 units.

So to be retrospective:  I think I went into this surgery too non-chalant.  Getting ready for the RNY I came to terms with the dangers of the surgery and really prepared myself for all the potentials.  Going into this one I was really worried about getting back to exercising and to my normal level of activity.  I thought I was all set on what I was in for but like I said, I just under estimated this surgery.  Whenever you go under it's major and when I look at the incision lines I think, WOW!!  There's a couple of things that probably lead to my low blood levels, one being my arthritis medicine (Humira) and the fact I did deal with some dizziness and light-headiness occasionally.  Everything of course check out in the pre-op appointments, I just think there may be some underlying things there that I'll have to get check out.

I again am very grateful for my surgeon; he's been great through everything.  The nurses were exceptional, not only in my treatment but also with my parents.

It's too early for me to say if this has been a great decision, lol.  I'm looking forward to seeing the results and sure in 6 months time I'll have forgotten the drama of the week.  The one bright side of this is any thought of pushing myself too hard to quick is gone now!  I've had my set back, not gonna do anything to cause another one.

Thanks for the previous posts, and Randy your response was pretty damn funny!

I can tell you have learned your lesson.......it is so important to let yourself heal........you have had a huge surgical procedure done and it is so important to do what the surgeon says and heal, do your vitamins, rest, eat well (although you probably wont be super hungry)   You are going to love your results!  and it will all be worth this first stage.  Take care of yourself and and look forward to your new look!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  rae
