GOOD SURGEONS IN METRO DETROIT

Hey all I'm new to this site and was wondering  any rec's for a surgeons in my i've been to Dr. krause's seminar and i'm still undecided,

I used Dr. Carlin at Henry Ford Detroit and he is amazing, super caring and the staff is the best that I have dealt with, pre and post op.

I have Dr Hendrick out of Wyandotte and I love him!!! Do a search for him here on OH and read the testimonials... He is very personable and really cares about his patients.

Well my vote is for my surgeon Dr. Schneider at St. John Oakland in madison Heights.  I love him so much I wish he could be my doctor for everything.  I am newly post op and my whole experience with him, the office staff, and the hospital was wonderful.  If you have a sense of humor he is the best doctor.  The hospital is small which I found to be the best thing.  I never had to wait for anything.  The staff was ready to help me immediately.  Dr. Scheider gives you his cell phone and home number too upon release so that you can call him for anything.  He typically calls all patients at home to see how they are but I happened to have called him first.  I was having some issues and called him multiple times and he never acted like I was a bother.  Oh I had RNY but he also does lap band too. 

Honestly I love Dr. Schneider so much I hope that I can get some more people to go see him.  If you have any specific questions please feel free to PM me.

I recommend Dr. Tallal Zeni out of St Mary Hospital in Livonia. He has an AWESOME program with LOTS of support & education along the way. He has required classes for you pre-op, as well as 2 dietitians, 2 RNs and an awesome medical assistant/front office staff member. They really know their stuff. There are monthly support group meetings for anyone to attend, even if you haven't yet had surgery or didn't have it with Dr. Zeni. A nice, positive atmosphere!

I recommend that you attend one of the support group meetings prior to making any final decisions about a surgeon. If you are interested, click on his name (just under my screen name to the left) and check out his profile page. You will find info about the support group meetings, which are held at St. Mary Hospital in Livonia (5 Mile Rd & Levan).

The next one is December 17th, and they are asking that everyone bring a new child's hat, scarf or pair of mittens/gloves to donate through the Sisters of Mercy. They are also asking everyone to bring a small WLS-friendly appetizer to share.

No matter where you choose to have surgery, gather as much info as you can. I interviewed 3 different surgeons before I decided on Dr. Zeni. In my opinion, I believe that most surgeons have the technical skill to do this surgery, but not all have a great before & aftercare program. This is KEY to your success!

I am giving another vote to Dr. Genaw and Dr. Carlin out of Henry Ford (main campus). They are beyond the best and so is the hospital and their program.  Good Luck on your search.

Michigan Bariatric Institute at St. Mary has a great program.  They are accessible, informative and very caring.  Dr Zeni's training and expertise are top-notch. He is a clear communicator and a gentle and caring man.   The staff is completely professional and dedicated to our success.  They are also very accessable.  I had concerns late on a Friday afternoon, reached Paula in the office and had a call back from the doctor within minutes.

My insurance was from out of state and not terribly helpful but Paula got answers and approvals from them in a very timely manner.   Tamara has kept me on the right nutrional path and Angie keeps track of me and my medical records.

Did I mention that I lost 96% of my excess weight by following their program?  And that Dr. Zeni cleaned out lots of adhesions when he did my surgery so I didn't have to go back later?  And that their monthly support group is free and open to all, not just their own patients?

Dr Krause did my surgery and he was wonderful.  His entire team at Beaumont Weight Loss did a great  job.  Go to one of the support groups and check things out.  I think they meet the 3rd Tues of the month.  Dr Krauses office can verify that.  I went for my first 2 years and enjoyed them.  I am now 5 years out and I don't go.

I had Dr. Birkmeyer at the U of M. Excellent surgeon and the support staff (Patti and Pam) are both awesome.

I had Docs Finks and Birkmeyer at the U as well.   Totally top notch surgeons, and there isn't a better NUT in the world!!
