OT- My brother has had his stem cell transplant.
Many of you know that my brother, Rob, has been diagnosed with a recurrent B cell lymphoma.
His medicaid was approved the 1st of October, and the Stem cell transplant soon after that. He has been here in Detroit for the better part of November. There were some pre admission things that allowed him to go back to Grandville for a few days at a time. He along with my 89 year old father are now here for the chemo and transplant. He was admitted a week ago Thursday to Karmanos for 7 days of intense chemo. Much to my surprise he has handled them very well, hardly any nausea.
Yesterday, they gave him back his own stem cells. His white count and plats are beginning to bottom out from the chemo, but the new stem cells should begin to produce, and the counts will begin to increase. We should be able to see increases in his counts in the next 14 days. Until then he will remain in a Karmanos BMT floor. My Dad is able to stay with him in the room and I can visit a couple of times a day.
For anyone that is interested in the process I have posted some pictures on his carepage. Here is the link:
