Blue care network -Help

Hi all, a friend of mine has blue care network , does anyone know if they cover bariatric surgery, and who the surgeons are who accept it? she is fairly close to lansing,  but could go where ever is necessary,Thanks Marcia

It may depend upon who she has the BCN through. The State of Michigan's BCN plan covers bariatric surgery, but requires you to have an independent psychiatric evaluation and use a Center of Excellence.

As far as I have been able to figure out, there are no Center of Excellence physicians in the Lansing area, just in Grand Rapids (Grand Health Partners - formerly MMPC - where I am in the process of getting approved), Flint, Ypsilanti, and Detroit. Also, unless your BMI is over 50, you must do the medically supervised weight loss plan first. I'm not sure if it is for 6 or 12 months as I have a BMI >50.

Both hospitals in Lansing are working on getting their certification for COE last I heard.  They may have gotten it by now but I went to Grand Rapids because of the surgery I wanted was not performed here locally.
