queasy question and breathing

Why is it that when I wake up I feel GREAT! Then I eat or drink ANYTHING and I get this icky queasy feeling then within 10 minutes I have to potty, (diarrhea-sorry tmi, I know) and it stays with me most of the day.  I am NOT overeating, not dumping, nothing....

All I had was a little apple juice diluted by half in water and some natural peanut butter with some crackers.  Not enough fat to make me icky either, this happens with ANYTHING I eat or drink...

I am just tired of knowing I have to eat but anytime I do I feel icky afterwards.  Any ideas?

Also next question.... When I walk I feel like my bra is on to tight, when I am not wearing one, sorry guys.... It just feels like I can't get a good breath and hold it in...  Any thoughts on this one either?

Thanks for any thoughts....
BTW, I am only 2.5 weeks out....

Christina, why do you say you are not dumping?   What you are describing sounds like dumping.   Apple juice has sugar in it , even diluted, and so does peanut butter.  I would contact your physician, as there might be other issues going on that are causing you distress.   You might be dehydrated with a low potassium, and you do not want to ignore any symptoms that make you uncomfortable.    Dr. Carlin would want to know.     Hope that helps.    Carol

I say I am not dumping, because it happens when I drink jus****er.  Now, I know that will not cause a dump.

And since the apple juice is natural sugar my NUT. said it won't cause a dump as long as its diluted and has no added sugars and the peanut butter is all natural too, (only ingredient is peanuts    )

Thanks

I had something that was just natural sugars in it when I was just a couple of weeks out and I dumped... It was horrible so when you are only out such a short period of time anything can happen.... Also sometimes there is fat in the peanut butter... also what about the preservatives and stuff that they add to it. Our whole system undergoes a change with this surgery and everyone can tolerate stuff differently... I mean take us post ops that some can eat whole grain pasta now and others cant.... I think you have to listen to your body.

If it is happening with water it could be something going on with your new stoma... I would put a call into the dr just to be sure...

Christina,

Either Call Wanda or the on call surgeon at HF.  The number is on the orange sheets in your blue binder.  You may have an onset of a stricture.  They usually come about 3-4 weeks post op.  I did not get any myself.  Dr. Carlin would also be able to help you.   He is pretty good about checking his email if you want to shoot him one.  Do you have his email addy?  Always  better to be safe than speculatory of what it could be.

On top of what everyone else said, remember once you tick off the pouch, especially early on, it can stay upset for a few days.  Meaning that if you eat or drink something that did not agree with you, it can last a few days until your pouch settles.  Go back to stage I foods.  If the food and liquid is coming up and not staying down you may have a stricture forming.  Call the dr.  If you are having a hard time breathing call the on-call surgeon.  You don't want to mess with that.

Remember you are only 2 weeks out and had major surgery, you will be in some pain.  I had really bad gas that settled in my shoulder .  It started a week after surgery and lasted two weeks.  Very painful but not life threating.

Try different food.  There is no rule of thumb that effects everyone the same.  This is a very personalized surgery and recovery.  Everyone reacts different to the same foods.  Remember as always be your own advocate!

Christina,
The symptoms you describe IS dumping.  Sugars, carbs, and fats can cause it,  eating too much, as well as the speed at which you are eating. I had the same trouble for a little while until I re-taught myself to slow down.  If the food or liquids go in too fast, they empty into the intestine too fast, and can cause diarrhea.  Take a bite or two and wait a few minutes.  I got so tired of my food getting cold but it was better than feeling sick from gulping stuff down.  Always sip your fluids rather than gulp mouthfuls.  Your tummy will thank you.  Sip-wait-Sip-wait-Sip.  Chew -wait-Chew-wait-Chew.
