Tummy Tuck Date Set - December 29 w/ Dr. DeNick

Hi!  Well, it's been awhile for me to post into the forums!  I had gastric bypass surgery in July of 2007 and have lost a little over 100 pounds.  I would still like to lose about 15 more pounds!  But I have maintained my current weight for almost one year so far.  I am scheduled for a tummy tuck on December 29, 2008 with Dr. DeNick at Barix.  Has anyone had surgery through him?  I will not only be having the horizontal tuck (I think?) but the vertical as well...I have some extra skin at the top of my abdomen as well.  I have thought about NOT getting that part tucked but then I went home and took a good look at myself...if I got the lower done but not the upper, I would still have hangign skin post surgery.  If I am going to go for it, I might as well go for it, right?

I keep looking at myself int he mirror trying to imagine what I would look like without that fatty loose skin on my belly...I can't even imagine being able to wear low rise jeans or panties without feeling uncomfortable...everything that I wear now I have to pull up and over my "pancake" belly...it's very uncomfortable...

I have tried telling a couple of people that I want to have the procedure done but most don't understand...then again, most of these people that I am talking to have never been overweight and don't know what it FEELS like to have all of that loose skin.  They seem to think that EXERCISE will make it go away...

Anyway, I woud like to hear of some of the experiences you have had if you have had the procedure done.  And what exactly do they do to your belly button?  That is one questiont aht I forgot to ask!!!

Kim!!!  Congrats on your upcoming surgery!!!!!!!  You have certainly chosen an amazing artist ........you have asked for anyone who has had surgery thru/with him to comment and so here is my reply.....feel free to send me a message if you have further questions!

When it comes to perfection, no one in the state of Michigan is as detailed and artistic as Dr. Vincent D DiNick, MD, DMD., of Barix Clinics @ Ypsilanti.  I know.  I've had him do all of my work, and I traveled about 2.5 hours 1 way each visit, for surgery, pre op, post of and for further post op care.

Since I had WLS, I have had 4 surgeries done by Dr. DiNick.  I had a TT, a scar revision from a seroma that wouldn't heal and he was adimate about fixing it so it looked perfect, he did hernia repair, (during the TT) I had a breast reduction/lift, and then a scar revision from that as I had a spot that didn't heal right.  He again, being a perfectionist, this not his fault, I didn't heal just right, and he wanted it to look perfect.    Each time we met, he gave me the "this is what I'm going to do, do you have any questions?"  I wrote down lists upon lists of questions and just handed it to him.  And he answered every single one.

Now, I am two years post op TT, and one year post op Breast reduction, and I have NO complaints.  NONE.   He has outstanding bedside manner, calms you down in the OR if you are nervous, his staff and attending OR staff, come out to meet you and make sure you feel welcomed, and when you go into the OR, you feel like you are welcome.

Post operative care he requires to see you several times for drain removal, check up on how you are healing, and above all, THAT YOU FOLLOW HIS ORDERS BY RESTING AND STAYING OFF YOUR FEET OR THE DRAINS WILL REMAIN IN LONGER THAN PLANNED!!!!!

I have referred several people to him and they love him.  I believe that this surgeon, this man, is an artist, sculptor, kind and giving of himself in his field, cares deeply about his patients, wants to make sure you are doing well, and following his orders, keeps your pain level to a bare minimum, and one thing he does when you are done, that not many other Surgeons do, he provides you with a personal way to contact him ANYTIME YOU NEED HIM DAY OR NIGHT TO ASK ANYTHING AT ALL NO MATTER WHAT.....so that you know you are being taken care of.  Name me any surgeon who does that.

I have had an overwhelmingly outstanding experience with Dr. DiNick and feel that you should make an effort to at least meet with him, and perhaps attend a seminar.  Carey Poisson is his Administrative Assistant and would be honored to set you up with an appointment.  He meets with patients on Saturdays, and sometimes the wait is long but HE IS SO WORTH IT AS SO MANY OF HIS PATIENTS WILL AGREE.

I cannot express the mileage I have put on my vehicle for him to take care of me but it is nothin compared to what I looked like then, as to what I look like now.  Distance means nothing when you want the best.  AND THAT HE IS.

Best of luck to you!!!!

Good luck!!!!  I'm going in December 15th for same thing with Dr DeNick.  I've been impressed with him and the staff so far.  Looking forward to the results -- not so much the immediate post-op though!
I'll be thinking of you

I had mine done Oct 3rd from that genious of a surgeon!!!!  I am still sore but it was so worth it and you are in the best of hands.....He performs miracles if you ask me.  I went in thinking it would just be a small change.....................MAJOR change I am smaller than I had ever anticipated.  I went in a 14 and wearing size 10 dress slacks from VS this am.  I feel like a million bucks.  REST, follow his direction, drain the tubes (the worst part is having the tubes really and the lipo is sore longer than the incisions) everyone is different but I really didn't have that hard of a time and if you ask if I would do it again...............In a second for sure.   The only issue I have today that you wont have...I had lap band and my underwire for my bra now sits on top of my port site and gets extremely sore.  This I will check into, maybe I can have it moved....................anyway, congratulations for going through with this, you will be so happy.  I am amazed at the comments I get ( I had a panni big time)  It's so much nicer to have a flat tummy (I swell there still from gravity) that will take awhile to heal for sure.   He is the best for sure!   Feel free to ask me questions anytime and isn't Carrie the sweetest?  Jackie in SE MI

Thank you all for your responses.  I am wondering if I should lose some weight before my surgery?
