New to Michigan Forums

Good morning and blessed Sunday,

I am new to the Michigan Forums so wanted to say hello.  I am Renee W.  I had my RNY Gastric Bypass surgery  on July 15th with Dr. Art Carlin though Henry Ford Bariatric program in Detroit.  I have lost a total of 92 pounds since I started this journey on January 1st, 2008 and a total of 52 pounds since my surgery date. 

I am a single mom of 4 children. I have two left at home.  A junior and senior in HS.  I have started a downriver support group that is pending OH approval.  I am so excited to have been given a second chance with this wonderful tool.

Its nice to put a face with the name :-)  Anyhow, Glad to see you on here.... Congrats on the loss and please let me know when you will have the DR support group up and running, it'll give me a place to go so I don't have to travel far.

I am hoping to have the support group up and running really soon.  I have solidified a location, I just need to go through the training and get it all set to go.  The website for the support group is:

Please go in and check it out.  I am waiting on the approvals for it to be active.  I attend the support group at Henry Ford and it is wonderful when I can get there.  This will be a support group for anyone from anywhere.  It does no matter where they had surgery all will be welcome.  Those contemplating or waiting surgery will also be welcome.

The support group meetings will be held in Melvindale.  As soon as it is finalized I will post the address on the website.  I hope you will all come. OH will help me get local speakers to come.  I am just ever so excited about getting it going.

I actually attend the support group that is held through my surgeon who is in Wyandotte. I just wondered how close it would be to that one. I am in the middle about a group. I really think I need to go to a group that focuses on just Post Ops, and I want one that allows the patients to be open and honest about the trials and turbulations that we face.

Your surgeon is a wonderful surgeon and the support group is awesome also.  I used to go to them before going to Henry Ford Detroit.  I was thinking of making my support group Post Op only.  I have received several emails requesting the same thing.  I do not want to make anyone feel left out but think us post ops need a venting outlet and support to be able to speak freely as well.

Hey Tina,

Thanks for the warm welcome.  I am so excited to be here.  I  had such a pleasure of meeting the Events manager from OH.  I am in the process of being approved by OH to be enrolled in the Support Group Leader Program.  So exciting!!
