MMPC (GHP) Behavior Evaluation - What to Expect?

Can anyone here tell me about their experience with the MMPC (GHP) behavior evaluation? Do they require you to do psych testing or just talk with you?

I have BCN State of Michigan insurance and had to have an independent psychological evaluation. When I went to my appointment earlier this week, I was required to take the MMPI test with nearly 570 questions. My follow-up appointment to find out their recommendation isn't until late next week, but I don't feel like my appointment went all that well.

I'd kind of like to know what to expect before my appointment at GHP in a couple weeks so I'm not blindsided like I was with my initial appointment.

My behavior evaluation at MMPC was about 6 months ago and it was very simple.  I was asked some very straightforward questions and we talked about some of my interests that had nothing to do with WLS.  Unless things have changed a lot, you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks, Julie - that's good to know. I see Dr. Kemmeter did your surgery. He's the surgeon I have my appointment with later this month.

Same here!

Pretty straight forward, talked about the test and some of the specifics, painless!

I had  already had 4 years of group behavior at their office and 10 or so visits with a private counselor so I knew I was ready.  This has been the aspect that has helped me the most in my journey as the surgery is only a tool.  I am so thankful!!

This is an incredible journey.  Enjoy it!!!

Since I have been in private therapy for years & years, I found their required evaluation to be a waste of time.  But, I realize that not everyone has traveled the road I have, and had gone through a complete analysis of the journey as I had done, so I am glad that they at least screen people -- and that is all I found it to be, a screening.  Frankly, the guy I met with was a religious fanatic, and I found him completely offensive.  I insisted they change my follow-up appointment to someone else.

Anyway, they should go over the results with you, feel you out for any real issues, and you'll be done with it.  Not to worry.  I doubt the test will enlighten you to anything you didn't already know about yourself.

OMG -- I know just the guy you're talking about.  The "religious fanatic" really ticked me off, too.  It was all I could do to be polite to the jerk.  My personal therapist actually cringed when I mentioned him; apparently, he's got a bad reputation even among his colleagues!

Now I find out I'm being charged for his segment of the one-year follow-up -- which was a complete waste of time, imo.  If I'd known that ahead of time, I wouldn't have attended his little "meeting."  Sheesh!

They tried to schedule me for a pysch follow-up for one year -- I asked who with, they said him, I said no way who else, they said only him, so I said don't make the appt.  Ya, and they wanted to charge for it!  Ha!!  I haven't seen a nutritionist since the 3 month follow-up (they don't know a thing about what a DSer needs).  I see the PA to go over my labs and that is it.

I was told by the practice manager that things with this guy would be addressed, but I have had conversations with several people who have had similar experiences with him, so I guess they just don't care.

good to know that they expect us to see him at the 1 year follow up as well. I will not be scheduling that portion of the visit.

I posted about my experience with him on my profile.

Kelly - I couldn't find your description of your psych experience on your profile, but I'll feel better going in more prepared than I was for my independent eval. I should know those results on Thursday.

I know the guy you all are referring to, but I'm blanking on his name.  Does anyone know if he's moving to the new practice?  When he brought up religion, I just told him my beliefs were private and I felt no need to discuss them with him.  Evidently he didn't hold it against me.
