3rd party preachers???

My cousin (a hair dresser) tells me today that a client who had WLS (not sure which) was in her shop recently.  They got on the topic of WLS and my cousin tells her that I had surgery too.  The other person stated she had surgery in August and has lost 70 lbs.  My cousin didn't know how much I'd lost, but said that she knew I hadn't lost as much as some others.  Apparently the woman gave her number to my cousin to have me call her - after saying that she was "very strict"....like I needed to be coached, preached to or set straight and she was the one to do it?!  I am not a person who likes conflict, but I would have no problem telling that woman to KISS MY A$$!

Has anyone encountered people like this?   Are there people *****ally think that they are the ultimate WLS queen/king?

(And to add...I did lose a lot slower than others who had surgery on or close to my surgery date.  At first it was a bit disheartening, but I am fine with it now.  That is just me. I am still losing and am actually just getting happy with my new tummy.  "Fred" was really sore about being downsized.  He is getting over it - little by little.  )

 

*hugs* I am sorry you had to hear about that. I have not experienced that yet. But I havent had a lot of interaction (other than OH) with others who have had surgery.

when people find out though, I still hear "oh my so and so had that and she is so sick...." Sorry I dont need to hear that either! It is also hard to explain the VSG and people dont get that either. they think I had the band when I say I didnt have the Gastric Bypass.

In my honest opinion, WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK!  This is YOUR body and if you lose slow, you lose slow--- you are still losing... there is no reason for ANYONE to say anything....

My neighbor comes to me almost daily and tells me of her friend who had the bypass like I did, hers was a week before mine and everything she says I take with a grain of salt. She tells me she isn't doing good, (sorry, not my problem), that she has a blood clot, (again, tell her to go to the dr, its not my problem) and that she won't lose any weight probably, she isn't determined like me... I finally said "there is NO way that ANYONE can tell who is going to lose fast, slow or intermediate.  I am just following my drs rules, if she does the same she will be fine, and lemme tell ya, she can use your support instead of the negativity. and really barb hearing of her problems don't help me any, though I know you are concerned about me, it just makes me uncomfortable to hear you talk about it."  She hasn't said one word to me about it since...
Now, its not that I don't want to face my own problems, I do, and I am aware of my body and what it tells me. I don't need anyone telling me that I am losing fast (not at all right now though), or that I am going to have this go wrong, or I am going to eat my way out of my pouch.... enough people....

I would tell your cousin and tell her that its no ones right to say who loses what and the lady was just being nosy, and to me she was....that and very BOSSY....

Come on Gwen.....there are those kinds of people right here on this board!  They had an "easy" time after surgery, and think that they are better than everyone else.  Or they believe that if you didn't lose a ton of weight as quickly as they did that you must not be trying.

Just ignore people like that.  They drive me nuts!  You will encounter that from time to time and just keep your composure and  you'll be fine.

You also have to realize that nothing you say to people is going to change anything.  You can come up with the greatest burns ever, and if someone has a really strong opinion, they will keep on being annoying.

Now that you have her phone number, you should just entertain yourself by pranking her.  Or Google the number and get her address and have tons of pizza delivered to her house LOL

Too cruel, but funny.... and I do agree with you that she does think she is better than everyone else...

We are all on our own journey....no 2 will ever be the same. Hell, I'm down 225 lbs and it took me 2 years...most people lose that in their first year....oh well...I'm slow...but happy!!!

Ummm yeah.  I have barely lost 100lbs. and it's been over 2 years.

I stopped losing at 18 months and haven't been able to lose anything since!

Of course I'm the only person in the world that WLS did not work for.  It's my surgeon's fault.  I totally blame him. 

Hi Gwen!!!!  I have lost 85 lbs in a little over 7 months and am thrilled!!!!!!!    I know there are people that have lost more and faster but I don't care.  I am just enjoying the hell out of this journey. 

And there are always people that will say they have done more, faster, bigger, better than you and they are either lieing, are insecure or truely think that they can help even though it was not needed or asked for. 

Anyway, just ignore the buttinski.

Hey Gwen. I dont post here that often but I do come and lurk every now and again. Just the other day my mother told me ,"wow after all of that weight lost your hips are still huge". I was 310lbs at my heaviest now I'm between 135-140. I think thats dang good. You have to over look those outsiders looking in at times....Dayja
