Grand Rapids running/tri training
Anyone training in Grand Rapids for the River Bank Run (any distance) or the marathon? I'm trianing for a couple marathons and http://www.steelheadtriathlon.com I'd like to find folks to train with, assuming schedules permit and definetly want to share nutrition experiences.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Looking back on the post, I should have said early on that I was from Battle Creek. It doesnt make any sense to car pool with us coming from different parts of the state.. whoops.. ha ha
I am planning on staying at least one night, but maybe two. I would like to take in the entire event/weekend. Who knows maybe I wont stay either night.
You should check out www.beginnertrithlete.com. Its a great site and it also has a Michigan forum.

Yeah Battle Creek isn't really "on the way" as it were. I can see us staying the night before maybe but not the night after. I'll be finishing last and probably feeling it the most of anyone in the group I'm going with which means a couple of them can handle the drive back.
I've been checking out that site but didn't know they had a Michigan forum. I'll look into it. I'm thinking of joining Blink with a couple friends too.
Some folks from work and I will be driving down to the Indy 500Festival Half Marathon or 5K on Friday May 1, stay overnight, run the race on May 2nd, drive to Cincinatti, pick up our packets for the Flying Pig Marathon (or half, or relay, or 5K, or 10K), stay overnight, run the race and drive back to arrive back in GR on May 3rd. We did this last year and it was great fun. The Indy Half is the largest in the nation and the flying pig has one of the best/largest expos I've ever been to. The race was very well organized. We ran the relay and there had to have been hundreds of relay teams yet it was smooth. There was a fire early on, they diverted the course, there was a person suffering a heart attack and a fully equiped fire fighter who was running for charity stopped and saved the guy's life. Amazing day.
Others by Battle Creek are the Borgess Half, Run to Climax, I biked Pumkinvine, can't think of much else. If you know of any other half marthons down there I like to do those for weekends.

Wait a minute! You cant finish last, because that is where I will be finishing. ha ha
Yeah, I plan to do the Borgess Half Marathon, as well as a bunch of 5 & 10K's. My goal is to get in at least 3 Half Marys before Steelhead. So I might just be in your neighborhood one day in the spring.
The road trip south does sound like a lot of fun.
With my new job/promotion, I now have every weekend off, and do wonders for getting in a lot more races this coming year.

GR has a lot of runs and many before Steelhead. The River Bank Run is a quarter mile walk from my house. It's a nice 25K course too if you're down for that. The after party is great and I've lived downtown for 20 years so I'm an excellent host.
Not sure if there are any other long runs around here before Steelhead. After steelhead though I'll be running the "Run Thru the Rapids", GR Bridge Run, GR Marathon, multitude of Reed Lake events, probably the Reeds Lake Tri which is a month before Steelhead, etc.
The Martian Half is on April 5....we'll be there.
We're also planning on the Goofy Challenge in Orlando (Disney) in Jan of 2010. That one is all about the medals.
