Is anyone familiar with MERS?  I am in need of a revision and I'm nervous to call them.  I'm calling tomorrow but was just wondering if anyone has any experience with MERS.    I had BCBS of MI when I had my RNY 7 years ago, so I'm really unsure if MERS will cover anything. Please give me good news :)  Thanks!

Laurie, the only part of MERS I have is the retirement.  Did you call them and ask?  I know their insurance is fairly new and it would also probably depend on if there's any exclusions.  I worked for Big Rapids for 21 years and we wavered between BC/BS & Priority Health.  They never would go for the MERS health insurance.  I do know it wasn't comparable to what we had with BC/BS.

Hi and thanks for your reply.  I did call them and they said that they will cover gastric bypass if it's medically necessary.  She wasn't sure about a revision on Gastric Bypass.  I have an appointment this morning at 10:00 with a surgeon.  :D  I hope they will cover a revision and deem it necessary.  Thanks again.

Good luck.  I sure hope they have guidelines for revision.  One lady out here in AZ is fighting her insurance company because they're trying to hold her to the regular bypass guidelines but there's no way she can meet them.  They're using them as a reason not to pay.  Keep on MERS to see if you can get a written set of guidelines of what they require for a revision and even the bypass.  Whatever you do, don't give up.  If they deny, appeal.  You might have to do it more than once but if your doctor says it's necessary, it'll be worth it.
