I have not lost any weight in almost two months! Seriously I was like 212lbs at 4 months and now am at 208lbs. I work out at least 3 times a week, get my protein in and drink only water (don't like coffee, used to like tea but not any more, tks Dr. Wood! j/k) I know we hit plateaus (sp)  but c'mon 2 months and all I get is 4 lbs?  Oh well I guess I should go for a walk or something, thanks for letting me bitc* a lil.  Mike

Mike, Chin up, better a loss than a gain.  It will come off, just remember how you use to eat and think of how much you would have gained?  Just a warm thought coming your way.

I JUST read an article the other day that said your body gets used to your workout so change it up every month or so.   It helps to avoid long plateaus and changes your bodies rhythm.  So if you are working out the same way everytime, change it up and see if maybe that will help.  When my sister had her band put in 5 years ago, that is what she did and it worked but I am not sure if she did something else too....

This isn't the article I read but its good info nonetheless.

But since I am still pre-op what do I know :)

I hope the best for you, but I hope that it gets moving soon!!!

Here's a list of questions to ask yourself .... now is the time you need to examine every tiny detail about your routine, eating, exercise.  Everything.  Maybe it's time to workout 4 days a week instead of 3.  Or maybe it's time to bump up your protein and take in more per day.  Here's the list... see if you have anything that needs to be adjusted:

  • Are you tracking your food intake in a food journal? Is it on track?
  • Are you tracking every single calorie that passed your lips? (flavored water, vitamins, gum, single pieces of candy) Even if you aren't keeping track of calories, your body is!
  • Are you eating too MANY calories?
  • Are you eating too FEW calories?
  • Are you taking in enough protein? 80-100g/day
  • Are the fats you're eating healthy (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated)
  • Are you eating too many simple carbs (bread, pasta, potatoes, sugar, pasta, rice)
  • Are you eating enough fruits and veggies?
  • Are you drinking enough water (water flushes fat toxins from our body)?
  • Are you grazing?
  • Are you eating the right quantity? Measuring and weighting foods?
  • Are you eating on a schedule?
  • Are you exercising hard enough? Long enough? Fast enough?
  • When's the last time you changed your exercise routine? (The body becomes efficient and doesn't burn as many calories after we've done the same thing for 4-6 weeks)
  • Have you added weight training to your workouts? (muscle burns more calories at rest)
  • Are you taking all your vitamins and supplements?
  • Have you started taking any new medications that might promote weight gain?
  • Have you taken your measurements (you might be losing inches even if the scale isn't moving)

IF you think everything is right on track, that's great.  Just keep the faith and keep doing the right thing.  The scale will move eventually.  :-)

Here's what always got me off a plateau very quickly.  Up your protein to between 100 & 120, vary your calories from 800 - 1500.  Don't eat the same amount of calories each day.  Your body will get used to what you are giving it and it thinks it's in starvation mode.  If you vary your calories from the low to the high & adding more protein then it fools your body and it will burn what you put in and not hold on to it for dear life.

Try this out and I bet that scale starts moving again.  Also, measure your body you might be losing inches while your body is catching up to your weight.
