I am 6 days out and go in to see my surgeon tomarrow.  I was sent home with a drain and he will will be removing it at  my one week checkup. I was told that he just clips a couple of sitches and pulls it out.  I am very scared because that is the area that I am experiencing the most pain.  I actualy called and talked to the on call  surgeon yesturday besause I noticed when I took my bandage off the area of my stomach where the drain goes in is caved in - it looks deformed. The doc said it was normal and that it was caused my the stitches they use internaly to hold the drain in place-they sometimes pull and thats why I have the pain and it should go away after the drain is removed.  My concern is when they pull the drain aren't those internal stiches going to tear? I am realy scared!

I had my drain pulled at 5 days out. Like you it was where I experienced the most discomfort. It is still my tender spot after 3 weeks out.

I would not worry about them pulling the internal stiches. This is something they do on a regular basis. *hugs*

Don't be scared!  Make sure you voice your concerns to your doc.  I would assume that it's routine stuff for them, and not a big deal (even though I know it seems HUGE to you).  Just to let you know I have 5 port sites from my lap RNY 2+ years ago.  They are still all caved in....like little divets on my abdomen.  Not much you can do about that, especially when the skin around them begins to sag.

It feels weird when the drain is pulled.  Not painful, but just weird.  Take a deep breath right before, and it will be over before you know it!

The drain will be out before you know it when the doc removes the stitches. I don't believe he'll prolong it by pulling it out slowly.
