Back on boards once again...and this time waiting for approval...
Here I am once again. I went in 2005 to begin but I seemed to be doing well without the surgery. Granted the weight was not coming off as quickly as I would have liked but the inches were melting away! But...life happens, I got bored and low and behold...it's back!
About three months ago my knee started hurting. Went to my primary physican who sent me to an orthopedic surgeon who sent me back to my priamary physican for an "aggressive weight loss" plan. I attended the free seminar at Borgess and got a DVD in the mail from Piatek Institute in Indy. I went back to my primary armed to the hilt. Together we looked over the info, talked about the pills that Piatek uses, bariatric options, insurance clauses on weight management. He looked through my chart and said we can try the medical thing again but we know that doesn't work. I am going to recommend the surgery. He will have sent the recommendation to the insurance company by this coming Monday so the wait is on.
I am not sure if Borgess is in our network. If not, he gave me Dr. Sabir at Bronson. If they are not in, then I guess I will be going to Ypsilanti...which is over two hours away from my home. That is where I went in 2005 and talked to Dr. Kam.
Anyone on the west side of Michigan that I can talk to that has had this surgery for 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years would be greatly appreciated. I would like to see how you are doing, your concerns, your praises, etc.
Hugs to all!

Hello fellow "OH" members,
Im in Saginaw if you dont know where that is its about 35 miles north of Flint. I am kinda in the same boat as yous. In 2005 I went threw a few tests had to write down every diet I tried my whole life, I had to either have 1 yr of supervised weightloss programs or my dr had to send in a yr worth of him documenting me trying to lose weight which I had thank god! I went threw my psych evaluation and passed with flying colors and met with my surgeon. 3 weeks later they discontinued my medicade insurance because they said I made to much money so everything I did was thrown out the window. I just got back on my medicade and my docter said they were gonna aggressively try to push me threw this so the insurance company wont have a chance to cancel me again..they said I shouldnt have to do most of the things I already did b/c ive already done them, and nothing has really changed except my diabeties has gotten worse. If I can get the reports from the sugeons office so they can submit them again to the insurance then I will only have to wait for the approval and a date....So Im really excited and cant wait...they said it could take 30 days for an approval...I think this is the worse part of the whole process... But i know its gonna be way worth the wait when the time finally comes and the weight is gone and I can play with my kids and take walks in the woods and possibly go for a jog or run. and on top of all that my health will improve so dramatically I wont have to take 4 shots of insuline a day!!!! Good luck to you both and please keep posting so we all know how your progressing..Thanks and god bless you!!!

I live about 40 minutes south of Kalamazoo. I have been doing a lot online today. I went to www.wlscenter.com to check out a book the nutritionist suggested..."Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies", found this site www.focus28wellness.com with vitamins, protein drinks, protein bars, soups, pudding for bariatric patients. Borgess and Dr. Verseman are in our network so that is a good thing!
I also watched a DVD that I received in the mail for Synvisc. My knee is having a "15" on the pain scale day today.
