I'm 2 1/2 months post op and am wondering if I will ever be able to eat Mexican or Chinese food again.  I don't want it right now because I'm trying to be very strict.  I am wondering about the future though!

I've eaten both Mexican and Chinese food since surgery.
Problem is it's high in fat, so it doesn't sit too well in my pouch. If I get chinese I usually ask them for no msg. and no soy sauce in it....I can then add soy sauce if I need too and control the amt.

Good luck on your journey.

Mexican for sure....the only problem might be the refried beans.  A lot of places use lard in them or lots of beef fat, so that may not work for you.  As a once in a while thing, you should be fine, depending on what foods you can tolerate.  I get a side of black beans with some cheese, or steak and shred it up.  Making Mexican at home is better for me because you can use lf sour cream and cheese.  That's my first post op meal......salsa, cheese, and beans!  (My NUT did warn me about using salsa too soon).

Chinese makes me sick every single time I eat it.  After a few times the lightbulb finally went off in my head and I knew I shouldn't even try any more.

Hey, Brenda.  I'm the same with chinese food.  My friends at work like to order from a great little chinese place about once every couple months.  I would order something, too.  Like you said, after a few times, I finally figured it out!  I just cannot eat it.  It sits like a brick and makes me VERY uncomfortable, even though I usually would order chicken and veggies, which I normally have no problem with.  Oddly enough, now if they order it, my one friend just gives me her eggroll.  I can eat one of those dumb things.....but I rarely do....

The only mexican food I eat is from home.  Even before surgery, there was something in "authentic" mexican food that makes me very ill.  It's weird.  I don't know what it is, but I don't eat mexican.  I like it, but I know it will make me sick, so I've never tried it since surgery, outside of taco salad at home.
