Liquid Protein in the first 2 weeks......

Hi all -

I am 5 days post-op and the liquid protein is not going well.  It all makes me want to puke.  It just tsates so bad.  Even things I used to tolerate before surgery, make me gag now.  ANyone have any suggestions on getting my protein in with all of the eating restrictions?????  Thanks.

Have you tried the powder tasteless protein?? I use beneprotein and I can't taste it unless I really try to. I add it to my soups and smoothies and crystal light.

No, I have not tried it, but maybe I should!  What type or kind of soups are you eating?  Got any good smoothie recipes?  Also, it looks like you are losing eight really fast already!  Good for you!  I have actually gained 4 pounds since the day of surgery......very sad about that and not sure what I could be doing wrong.  Good for you though........

I eat the campbells low fat low cal creamed soups. I also make my own strained soups. I make my smoothies with the yogurt, 100 percent juice some ice, and some frozen pineapple and bananas. Yeah the weight is just fallin off. I'm not really doing anything but walking around the house and outside in front of the house. You may be swollen, my friend is swollen from the surgery and she said she gained like 10 lbs.

You're not doing anything wrong, trust me.  It's impossible for you to gain weight like before.  The weight gain you're experiencing now is just fluids and gas, etc. from surgery.  Don't worry about it.   Your body will figure out what's going on and eventually get rid of all the extras.  Also, everyone loses at a different rate.  As long as you know you're doing what you should, don't stress about it.

Are you still on clear liquids? I used this on my 6th day--I couldn't tolerate one more clear liquid protein LOL

If you like eggnog, try this recipe--it has NO protein powder in it but still has a good amount of protein in it. This saved my life a few days ago LOL

1 can (12 oz) evaporated SKIM milk, chilled
1/2 cup liquids egg substitute (like Egg Beaters)
1/8 cup nonfat dry milk powder  (optional, but adds more protein)
1 pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)
3 packets of sugar substitute
1 tsp. vanilla extract (real or imitation)

Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend on low speed until well mixed. If you want to make it colder, or more like a milkshake thickness, toss a few ice cubes in the blender. You can also just pour it over ice.

servings: 1 (for calculation purposes--I actually drink 1/2 of this at a time)
Calories: 335 (if you DON'T add the nonfat dry milk powder, calories=233)
Protein 36.9 gm (if you DON'T add the nonfat dry milk powder, protein=26.9 gm)

Since you're so early out, I would make 3 or 4 servings out of this. Sip, sip, sip!
