Hi all--almost at my surgery date of 8/25! I think I have purchased just about every sample size packet of whey protein out there LOL. I've only had the guts to try ONE hehehe--I figure I'll leave the rest until I am postop

I'm curious about Egg Protein, too. Is there any reason that we couldn't also use this? Or does it have to be whey? I've heard that whey is better than soy, but how does whey compare to egg?

Thanks in advance for all of your help. I have truly learned SO MUCH here at OH. It's only a matter of time before I can actually CONTRIBUTE, rather than just "take" from the boards. I also enjoy the snarky humor here (I shall mention no names )

Hey Girl!

My husband uses egg protein because he can't do whey.  I'm pretty sure it's just as good as the whey.

Are you super excited yet?  Scared? Worried?  All of the above are normal.  I can't wait to encourage you on your journey!

Jenn

I am just OVER THE TOP with excitement!! My doc has me on a 1000 cal diet for 8 days pre-op. Doing OK with that, but can't wait to get the surgery behind me!  I have been thinking about you a lot. We will definitely need to get together soon. Talk to you later, girl!

I did the egg protein.  I liked it much better than the whey protein. Thank goodness I had bought my whey protein at the Vitamin Shoppe since they took it all back for a store credit.

Thanks, Sheryl! I am glad I have only gotten sample sized packs since this would be too expensive to waste!

I just did a quick check of the Biological Value of egg protein powder.  It looks like it is equal to whey protein.  Both with a value of 100 (the highest available).

Here's some FAQs

After my surgery I had to try about 4 dozen different flavors/brands before I found a few that I liked enough to buy a whole jar of.  So plan on a period of experimentation after surgery.  I have a list of online and local resources listed on my Profile of where to find protein samples.  I started with the 21-flavor pack available at www.enjoyhealth.com.

Thanks, Pam! As usual, you are a fountain of information! I ordered the Champion & Nectar samples from enjoyhealth. They are in my pantry as we speak!

The Vitamin Shoppe does sell individual packets of the egg protein. If you have trouble finding it let me know and you can pm me and I will send you a couple to try. I drank the chocolate and vanilla, but it also came in strawberry. Best of luck.
