Me and a super cool chick  are in the hair loss stages of our WLS journey.  We are planning on going together to get our hair done.

Those of you who thought it nessesary to get a new style (or in my case A style) did you have any issues when you cut your hair?  Do you think you should have kept some lenght or gone shorter or even really short?

Those in the GR area - can you recommend a good, reasonable salon?

Yeah, we need some style to hide this baldness. I mean.. this very mild hair loss.

I don't have a style. It's straight and long and just hangs there.. and now it's questionable that it hangs there. It's more like falling everywhere.

I don't think I have ever gotten my hair cut anywhere in GR other than a BoRics or something.

Suggestions are much appreciated!

Hey there Super Cool Chick!
I also asked about length on my sleeve board.  With winter coming (I know it is only August - I'm little miss pessimist...) I'd like to keep some length.  But I have no problem going really short.  Been there before.  I just don't want to get it cut then have to go back to have it cut shorter.

Gwen and SCC: let me give you a bit of advice...if your hair starts to thin on top, don't keep the rest of it long to try to compensate.  You'll end up like me (last year) and look like one of those guys in a tank top walking around the carnival with a mullet (Business in the front, party in the back!!)

Here is a cute style that is "messy" so you can stratigically place your hair to cover up where you are thinning.  http://gimps.de/pictures/264-short-hair-cuts-and-styles

One more piece of advice that is just MHO-think about how much you want to spend and try to go somewhere nice that you can develop a relationship with a stylist.  Ask around for someone that's really good that understands the scientific aspect of cutting hair.  Spend as much as you can afford to get the best look for you.  Again, from my experience, if you go somewhere to just "get a haircut" they are going to chop it all and send you on your way.  Gather pics of what you do want and what you don't want.  Consider color too....it bulks the hair up.  Look into cosmotology schools in the area.  They might lack a little experience but should have the "book smarts" to understand what your hair is going through.

Give them a call...they have one in the Detroit area that is AMAZING http://www.douglasj.com/institute_about_gr.html

Thanks for the info!  I looked them up on the web.  We may do them, but their prices are the same as a salon that I found.  I was expecting them to be a *****eaper.  I think, like you said, that they might have more 'book smarts' than the stylist.  Now to decide between knowing what to do and how to do it.

I see they have spa packages.  I like that idea, but that may have to wait until I reach goal.

Douglas J is a good place to try, my sister goes to the one in Lansing and they do a nice job.  Good luck girls!  I may be right behind you guys, I am still having problems getting everything down and I am affraid my hair is going to thin even more soon.

My hair dresser told me to increase my Biotin, and had me start using Nioxin hair products.  I got thin, but now I have thicker hair than before.

I did go shorter, and did color for a while to help for a while.
