Lansing area support groups

Hey folks! I am over 4 years out, and can honestly say I have never been to a support group meeting. What better time than the present to start a new habit!

My surgeon left practice three months after I had surgery, so I have really felt quite alone along this journey. I would love to meet some friends in the area who can understand me better than those skinny folk

Any takers?

Hi I read your profile I am 3 years out and have had alot of ups and downs from my surgery, lost the weight yes but I think I went a little crazy for awhile trying to reel myself back in now. I am allways up for making new friends.

Hey there Randy! Nice to meet ya!

I completely understand the going crazy feeling. It's a day to day thing with me. I never know where the rollercoaster is going to stop until it happens, but I have to say the amount of weight lost has been worth it. That being said, I would love to visit with people in the same boat.

I have seen a lot of people getting together in the Detroit area, but didn't know of too many Lansing area groups. It would be nice to have an informal setting, rather than a hospital based conference room.

Hi Erin!

I so hear you all on the "I think I went crazy" thing.   I'm 3 years out and like Randy am REALLY working hard to reign my life back in.  So far so good!!!!!!

I peeked at your profile.. I too am 5'10 about 150 but as we know that moves 5 up and down allot... And I 100% get what you say about still feeling fat due to extra skin.   I would look in the mirror and still see a 285lb person, not the 145lbs or less at one point I was.  3 weeks ago I had a TT, I’m still swollen so I don't know if this will or will not help with my image issues... right now I still FAT but that’s the swelling, I HOPE!

I’m a little far to hike to Lansing (although I would do it once in a while...) I am here online if you ever need someplace to vent.. :)

BEST WISHES!
The other ERIN!

Congrats on the TT! I wish I could afford plastics right now, but it's simply not in the cards. I hope you feel better soon, and I'm sure it will all be worth it.

Midland really isn't that far....perhaps, down the road a road trip might be in order.

The funny thing is my maiden name began with a G. I thought maybe I was responding to myself!

Hello -
I will be having RNY sometime at the end of the year, once I have finished my 6-month supervised weight loss program for the insurance company.  I would love to have a group in the Lansing area for support.  I'd be happy to help organize.

Hello all,
I am too farther out, almost 3 years out. Anyways, there is a semi-local support group that I go to and it keeps me focused so to speak.  Its the Owosso Memorial support group, anyone and everyone is welcome. They meet on the last Wednesday of every month, this month it is located at the Memorial Healthcare Auditorium right at the hospital, August 27, 6:30-8:30.

Like Jenny said, we have an awesome group in Leslie on the last Wednesday of the month.  It's only about 20 minutes south of Lansing.  We would love to see you!

Lansing Support Group Information:  There is a meeting tonight 8/11 at Century Mobil Home Park Club House, 215 North Canal Road, Lansing.  Time-  5:30-6:30   New Beginnings Support Group developed from the Little Victories Support Group, which had groups in Lansing, Jackson, and Grand Rapids. New Beginnings Support Group consists of patients from different programs. We endorse the general industry standards of such groups as the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), American Dietitians Association (ADA), and the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP). We encourage patients to consult with their medical service providers regarding questions about their particular protocols. We see our group as a tool for patients to use before, during and after their weight loss surgery.   New Beginnings is an informal support group that offers a place for weight loss surgery patients to get together to receive and give support and educational information in a friendly and fun atmosphere. We do a lot of celebrating!
