BCN Insurance & Co-Pay
I am so confused and bummed! I am new here and have a scheduled surgery date for 7/31. Yes, that is just 2 days away. I got my call from the RN at the hospital today to go over meds and give me instructions along with my surgery time. Then after that I get a call from the billing dept. at the hospital. She proceeds to tell me that I owe 50% of the surgery. All along I was under the impression I had about $1,000 of out of the pocket costs and BCN would cover the rest. Kind of a big shock two days before surgery. Doesn't do much for my blood pressure.
Anyway, after talking to someone at BCN it seems this is true and they have notes that they told me this back in February. HMMMMMM. . . . Must of dreamt the they were covering it all.
After a discussion with my hubby, he said there is no way you are giving up now, and we are going on with this journey. I feel so guilty now!!
So question to all of you, has anyone else had this?

Hi-
Yikes! that's not cool. I have a version of BCN *** Premier Care), and when I called BCN, they sent me all their requirement criteria. You have to refer to their "benefit document" for specifics on co-pays, etc. Do you have a copy of that? Each employer/insurer agreement can be different, so my co-pay might be different than yours, which could be different than someone else's. You might even find a copy of the benefit document online. If not, call BCN's customer service dept to request a copy of it (or many your employer's benefits office).
I think it's great that your husband is being so supportive - it's a lot of money. But you shouldn't feel guilty - in the end it's about your health and wouldn't you pay zillions if you had what's considered a "traditional" disease?
Good luck with your surgery!!

Thanks Lara for your kind words. That is what my husband told me yesterday. If it was any other type of surgery there would be no question we would pay it! And, I have type II diabetes therefore, this surgery is a health neccesity as far as I am concerned.
We have our benefits coordinator looking into it. It did not make sense to her at all and she wants to get some type of explanation for it. She said this is not "elective surgery" and seem to be treating it as such. We will see, but if we have to pay we will. I am not going to let this get to me. Twenty four hours from now I should be out of surgery!
Thanks again.
