MMPCer's Priority Heath

Hope you all aren't getting sick of me!  I have another question again!  As you may know from my previous posts-I was told by one of the gals from MMPC that my priority health insurance considered WWatchers as a medically supervised diet.  Well-all you guys were right-they don't!!!  So I'm approved to go to MMPC for the medically supervised diet-that's good!

Now-so you know -I've done this before in 1991 and lost 100 pounds-but regained the weight after about 6-8 months.  Right now my BMI is right at 45 with no serious co morbidies.  If I lose the weight and comply with the insurance requirements my BMI will fall far below 45-will they still consider me for surgery?????  I'll be thrilled with the weight lose and I'm very determined to keep it off-but scared because of past attempts.

In three weeks I'll be attending the orientation for the weight lose program and then can set up my appointments.  Anyone have advise for me from their experience-it would be appreciated.  And sorry for all the dumb questions-I'm just trying to figure out what the future may hold!  Thanks.  Jody B

Hi Jody! If you fall below the 40 BMI, I was told I wouldn't qualify. I dropped down to 39 BMI after the diet but gained my loss back & then some(story of my life but my own fault). I think you need to decide which path you want to take. You have the potential to lose a lot of weight on the program. Do you think you can keep it off? If so, give it your all & get that weight off! If not, you need to be "COMPLIANT" w/the program-meaning, you have to go to all of the weekly meetings/check ups & follow the plan to the best of your ability. To be honest, when I started, I really thought I could do it! I was fired up & motivated-that lasted until week 3. It was just touch & go from there. I only lost 23 lbs in the 16 weeks(you're on reg food from then on) but went to all of the meetings & was "COMPLIANT". The meetings are really interesting, I enjoyed them. Good luck!! Time will fly even tho it won't always feel like it. Lisa

PS-there are no dumb questions! There's probably someone else lurking right now who was wondering the same thing

Hi!  No questions are dumb!!!  :-)

I was in the medical program (still am technically) for 3 years.  What I mean by that is I have done the fast twice and have continued to go to meetings on a regular basis, even as a post op.

I regained my weight both times!  I then decided to have surgery.  I started out with a BMI of 42, sleep apnea with an AHI of 14 (PH requires greater than 10 to count as a comorb), high cholesterol, depression...that's about it.  I was approved with the initial letter from Dr. Foote!

The key here was my sleep apnea.  I never would've guessed I had it but my PCP suggested I have the sleep study and boy am I glad I did!!!!  If your BMI is lower than 45 you have to have the co morb's.  I think it reads " BMI greater than 40 and less than 45 one of the following must be present"  and goes on to list the qualifing co morbs.

So--I guess if you had a sleep study and had apnea then if your BMI got to between 40 and 45 you'd be good to go!  For surgery that is.

Hope this helps!

Best wishes on your incredible journey!!!
