Hi Everyone it's been awhile since I posted. I had my RNY Lap. done on June 20. I had a few rough days at first but I am feeling pretty good now. The question is I have the four suppliments a day and my 64oz. of water but I'm so hungry for something solid!! How did you guys make the two weeks?

I cried a lot, I asked God what I did to myself.  I cried some more.  I grabbed a handful of Cheerios and chewed them and spit them out just so I could remember how to chew. Then I made myself some frozen crystal light and crushed it up like a slurpee so I could crunch the ice.  And I realized I was almost to the end, and I would be ok. You're doing great, and you're in the home stretch.  Your body is rebelling and telling you that you've gone crazy.  I promise it only gets better from here.  Remember when your 2 weeks is up to go slow and try just one thing at a time even though you are really eager to chew. Keep your chin up.....you're getting smaller every day and pretty soon this part will just be a memory!

I don't advise this and I am not promoting it - but I cheated at 6 days out! I know it was head hunger. It started 4 days out. I could barely drink, but still wanted food. I think most of it was because I am not a sweets person and almost all of the supplements are sweet. I just needed real food. I ate a Kraft single. I chewed it really well, but it got rid of the nagging feeling. THANKFULLY I didn't have any problems. I was honest with the NUT at my 2 week check up.  She wasn't impressed. Cheese is a no-no for several weeks. I can have cheese come Tuesday and I am waiting. I haven't had any cheese since that slice. (I also wanted to add that I was very upset with myself because I cheated. I thought I wouldn't have the will power to use my tool right. But that was the worse thing I've done next to drinking water too quickly.)

Ohhhh I know I talk too much but I just have to add to the lovely Gwen's post: From now on, you have to think like a skinny person.  You can't beat yourself up for things you do.  That can lead you to give up and figure you can't do it.  Take one hour at a time.  Don't look at food as "bad" any more.  You will pretty soon figure out what your body needs and what feels good.  Thin, healthy people don't obsess and look at food as the end all-be all.  A thin person will look at food, taste it, and be done with it.  You have to recognize the hold that food had on you and let it go. I went to a graduation party tonight, where there were more desserts than entrees.  I had a small salad, some chicken with the skin taken off and 1/4 of a brownie (I don't dump).  I don't feel guilty, it was a damn good brownie!  I didn't sneak 2 brownies in the bathroom and then take another 5 home claiming they were "for my kids" and eat them in the car.  That's what I would have done two years ago.  Tonight,  I carefully chose my food.  Ate it.  Enjoyed it.  Forgot about it.  You'll soon figure out how to do that.   So sorry to ramble on yet again, but it's important for you guys to realize that food guilt will make you do crazy things.  We have seen people on this site eat a Wendy's cheeseburger before two weeks out!   A slice of cheese is what it is.  A moment when Gwen made a choice.  Not the best one, not the worst one.  But she moved on and didn't give up. Use this time to figure your body out....like what sets off cravings, what kinds of foods you can substitue for what you used to eat, etc. We've all been there so keep asking questions!!

Brenda, This is one of the best posts I have ever read!  I am trying to learn to eat like a thin person and not obsess over food.  Learning to move on after I make a bad choice is becoming easier.  In the pre op days, I would go on a diet and as soon as things went awry, I would give up hope. Now I know that it's never too late to make better choices.  This is a lifelong fight that we have to keep working on. You always seem to have the best most honest advice.  Thank you for taking the time to help everyone. Jenn

Thank You Everyone for all the good advice and comments!!  My Official two weeks is up on July4, but obviously they aren't open so I have my app't July 7th. I was thinking about calling the Nut. on July 3rd. to see if there is anything else I can have over the holiday weekend. We are going on a canoe trip and it would be nice to nibble on someting else besides product. Do you guys think this is a good idea?

It wouldn't hurt!  I have Dr Baker and I saw him before seeing the NUT at my 2 week check-up.  I asked about going to mushies (I was only 8 days out at my 2 week appt because he was on vacation the following week) and he said it was fine to proceed to them as I was comfortable with and tolerating.  The NUT wasn't as quick to give me her OK, but she did.  I moved on to cottage cheese, yogurt, baby food meats and cream soups.  It  was just nice to be able to have milk again.  I am still doing a lot of supplements, but it is nice to have the ability to chew something or have something different.  You will only be 1 day off and I don't think there will be any problem. Also - they don't always call back same day.  I'd call on the 1st or 2nd to talk to them about it.  They will probably be extra busy with a shortened week. Good luck!
