If you have BCBS/MI who did your psych evaluation?

I am having surgery through Barix and they do have a psych doctor on staff there, but I have heard mixed reviews on him and the timeliness of getting his report back to the surgeon.  Also, it is my understanding that you have to pay out of pocket for this service, so I am looking for referrals to good psychologists that understand the process.  Any ideas?

I also went through Barix.  I used the Psych that they recommended to me and that was Dr. Meddick.  It was a fairly easy process for me, but my insurance did not cover any of it.  I paid out of pocket and I think that the cost was approx. $150.

Good Luck

I used Dr. Williams in Flint.  The appointment takes 3 hours and you take a computerized test for the majority of that time.  Before you leave his office he tells you if he approves you for surgery or not and faxes the approval letter to your surgeon by the end of the day.  I have BCBS PPO and it was covered 100% after my office visit co-pay ($20). Dr. Williams' office number is: 810-630-1152 Of course the out of pocket and coverage question is something you need to ask YOUR insurance company based on your specific coverage.  Even if we have the exact same insurance company, the policy could be drastically different based on what your employer negotiated for their employee coverage.  So call the number on the back of your card and get the specific details about what is covered exactly. Went thru the DMC and they gave me a DR. that I could call and he would the interview over the phone, the process took literally 5 minutes.  I did have to pay, it was $150.

Does anyone know if the $150 is applied towards your deductible?  I have a $500 deductible and a 20% copay (max of $1500) that I will have to pay for surgery.

HI, this is my first time responding to this site, but I read often. I have Blue CRoss Blue Shield Illinois- my psych visit was $200 out of pocket. I am going through Beaumont, Royal Oak. I used Dr. Jackie Odom, the staff psychologist- she has lots of experience and is wonderful. It takes approximately 45 minutes or so. I am currently waiting for the surgical date. Good Luck.
