17 Days PreOp and CRANKY! Normal?

My surgery is July 8th.  This is my 5th day of being on the liquid OptiFast so I haven't had any solid food since June 16th.  Thank God for sugar free jello!!!! (never thought I'd say that) I haven't had a cigarette since May 1st, and no caffeine since June 16th.  It is all I can do to keep from being a complete BITC*!  I feel like I have given up everything and I am CRANKY!  Is it normal to feel like this?  Is it going to go away?  I desperately want this surgery and I will hang in there.  However, my husband is upset I'm having the surgery.  He is so afraid something will happen to me it is making him irritable.  We may hurt each other before July 8th!  Any suggestions?? Oh, and I have to go to a freakin PIG ROAST today!  Grrrrrrrrr!  LOL! Kim

OK so let me understand...you are going through nicotine(sp?) withdrawal, caffeine withdrawal and the psychological withdrawal of not eating like you have everyday since you were one, and you are wondering if your crankyness is normal?  My opinion is you have the right bitc* all the up to July 8th without any complaints from anyone around you.  Just my opinion though.  Mike

Mike, I like your opinion!  When you put it like that I suppose anyone would be Bitc**! Thank you, Kim

Yes, this is normal ... caffeine and sugar withdrawal will do this to you. And, although I don't have a husband, it is normal for loved ones to worry about something happening to you during the surgery. There is nothing you can do to change that. He loves you. (My mother did the same thing ... plus she kept telling me I was going to gain it all back.) All you can do is tell him, if he is religious, to put his trust in God (or the higher power or whatever). My feeling is, whenever I've had surgery, I trust in my doctors and nurses and their skills, and if it's my time to go, that's it.  Now, the pig roast is another matter. That might drive me crazy. Hang in there ... the surgery and its results are well worth it!

Hi Eileen, I asked him to think about this like it was saving my life.  Because in the long run I believe it will be.  Besides the Pseudotumor Cerbri I have been pretty lucky about health problems.  I'm not diabetic and I don't have high blood sugar, heart problems, or anything like that.   He feels like I didn't consider his feelings when I decided to do this.  He is right!  I'm going to have the surgery weather he likes it or not!  My husband is a skinny guy with a little pot belly.  He hasn't ever had to deal with dieting, and he is a worry wart!  I told him I was going to have the doc knock him out while I was having surgery, LOL!  I'm confident I'll be fine, and so will he. Thank you, Kim

The verdict is you are normal. I might just skip the eating of the pig, but you may want to take extra sf jello with you.

God bless,
Annette

Hi Annette, Thank you!  I am so glad because I hate feeling like this.  Hopefully it will pass soon.  I think in addition to my withdraw issues that I have to be nice all day at work, and when I come home hubby gets the bad side of my attitude! I took extra sf jello and a protien drink!  It wasn't too hard to get thru! THank you, Kim
