OMG, finally after 2.5 years of fighting and waiting.  Im beside myself.  Barix says I have good insurance, so there should be no problems.  I sure hope they are right.  After my nightmare with HAP and then losing my job and insurance and not being able to get the surgery, I am ready for things to work out now.

Just wondered about something.  I have BCBS/PPO.  I know all contracts are different and some have diet and/or other requirements that need to be met, but has anyone with BCBS ever not gotten approval or been told it is not a covered benefit?  Barix says they have contract with BCBS and it should be covered.

Colleen, I have the same insurance thru the State of MI and its very good.  I paid nothing out of pocket and the approval only took a few days.  I am getting plastics in August and Dr. Dinick said approval will be not problem with bcbsppo.  Last year, I did need the 6 months diet docs but I had them, so no issues.  Best of Luck! p.s. Are you using dr. schram????   I <3 him!  He is the Dr. in my avatar.  It was taken at my one year check up..... belinda

You know, I was so excited to hear I had an appointment, I didn't even think to ask which doctor it was with.  I have heard good things about all of the surgeons at Barix in Ypsi, so I think I would be comfortable with any of them, but do hope to have either Dr. Schram or Dr. Poplowski.

I have BCPPO and it was pretty straightforward.  Not many hoops to jump through.  They even called me the day I came home from surgery to tell me that it's covered if I wanted a nurse to come out and check my port sites or anything.  I was really happy with them.

Hey Colleen! Congrats!  I have BCBS PPO also and I just got my approval in one day from Barix after they received my psychological evaluation.  It has been a breeze so far.  I'm sure it will be for you, too. Just a heads up...if your BMI is over 50 BCBS waives the supervised diet but they do require a psychological for everyone.  You might want to get that scheduled or done now so it will be a quicker process and you won't have to wait long to get your chart to scheduling. Good Luck, Nikki

Thanks for the heads up on the psych eval.  I was pretty sure that was going to be needed.  Just curious, if I have been on meds and diet for diabetes for last 8 months, will that count towards diet requirements?

Yesterday, was my 2 year surgery date!  I have BCBS PPO of MI.  The whole process for me was 3 weeks!  In the last year, I have gone through many rounds of plastics through Barix.  My insurance only approved of my FTT.  Everything else was out of pocket.  Dr. DiNick is the best! Good luck, this is SO worth it! Robin
