Hi Al! You should watch who you align yourself with on this island.....Belinda is a shady character. Just kidding of course.  You'll learn a lot here, so it's a good place to pop in and read. As for the coffee.....it's just like anything else after WLS.  Your nutritionist (NUT) and your surgeon will give you guidelines that may be different from others.  We all kind of adapt our own set of rules based on what works for us. Glad to have you part of our disfynctional family!

HI Al!!!!!!!! I have to say that not all people think its okay to drink coffee.  And yes THEY will give ya some crap if you post about it.  But there are people who do and dont.  I personally think its up to the individual.  Me, I get my caffiene synthetically, dont even ask. Hey Al, one time, at band camp, I drank through a straw, and GAINED ALL MY WEIGHT BACK THE VERY NEXT DAY!!! again, I am kind of a smart @ss.  people will give you the never do this and never do that.  like the straws etc.  Just do what works for YOU. welcome.  you have now been hazed....welcome to the secret society. buh lin duh

Oh my gosh....this is so bizarre!  Since surgery (2 years and a few months ago) I always take the straw out of my drinks when I go out and don't ever use them at home.  Lately, within the last few months or so, I've been using Starbucks iced tea as my drive thru treat.  When I used to go get mcnuggets, now I get tea.  But, I digress.  So all this time, plus the other night when we went for drinks in Ann Arbor, I used a straw!!!!  I didn't even realize I was doing it!   If you would have asked me if I used one, I would have said, no, I can't since surgery.  Oh man am I a dork.  But I didn't die, my pouch didn't explode (probably because it's the size of a bowling ball anyway) and I didn't have to burp myself into a stupor.  So I guess some people can use a straw sometimes and life will go on.

YAY!  STARBUCKS BREAKFAST BLEND!  I LOVE YOU!  LOL!!!  If Belinda invited you here....um....we now know to BEWARE. As far as the coffee thing goes.  I didn't actually start drinking coffee until AFTER I had surgery.  My hubby started buying SB breakfast blend and brewing it at home a little over a year and a half ago.  I've been hooked ever since.  I drink about a cup or so a day.  I drink WAY less caffeine after surgery because I don't drink a 12 pack of COKE everyday.  In a normal day, I drink my coffee in the AM and water the remainder of the day.  Welcome to the board.  Is that your bike in the pic?  Tina
