I need help!
I am just over 18 months out from RNY. Yesterday, I came down with something resembling either food poisoning or a stomach virus. I have a fever, so I'm thinking it's the latter.
I've lost 7 pounds in 12 hours and I can't seem to sip water or I get nauseous.
My question is, have any of you ever experienced this post op and if so, what did you do? I know I'm getting dehydrated.
Help!

Jenn,
I know you know to call the doc if it gets any worse...
in the mean time, try getting the Crystal Lite hydration water mix ins. They have electrolytes in them. I would mix some up and freeze little cups and try to get down as much as you can.
I came down with something similar this winter and I had to drink everything really cold or frozen. After a while I gave up and just slept it off then used the drinks to replenish.
Hope you're feeling better soon!
Thank you all for your advice. I have been able to keep a popsicle down so far.
I called MMPC and the nurse was sure they would want a stool sample. I told her I had already given enough of them in the last 24 hours
. Something about bacteria in the intestines. I'm sure it's not that. She said she would call something into the pharmacy for me, but she hasn't called back.
On the plus side, I've lost 8 pounds in 24 hours. I'm sure it's all going to come back as soon as I'm able to eat.
Thanks again for your concern.
Jenn

Jenn--
Please do not discount their request for a stool sample... i have been extremely sick with an intestinal bacterial infection that has had me in its grips for over 4 weeks. (hence me not being on here or posting) better to be safe than sorry with the stool sample. It feels like the flu, but isnt..... if it doesnt get better.. do the stool sample... gross i know....
feel better soon!!

Try frequent sips of room-temperature Gatorade or Pedialyte. They have electrolytes that your body needs replaced. Then when you are able to tolerate something more start with dry toast. I like pedialyte (in the infant section) because you can get plain, nonflavored, and even the flavored stuff isn't that strong. Gatorade can be rather strong and sour.
