Pre-packed food choices that is......    I didn't get a chance to purchase the $20 sampler pack to try out some of the food choices. So tomorrow I'm going to the pre-op(for RN-Y) seminar and will have to choose my pre and immediate post op food items. I know everyone tastes are different... but any suggestions welcome.  Jenn F. shared with me that she liked the prepared shakes, hot chocolate. apple/cin oatmeal ,spaghetti and chili.      Any input appreciated!

The prepared shakes are great! I also LOVE the caramel nut bars, soy nuts, soy snacks(except the chocolate ones but I was in the minority on that one), the chili & spaghetti are decent. The choc peanut crunch bars are good too. The fruity drink mixes are good if you get them to mix up right(I would put mine into an empty water bottle, add the suggested amt of water, put the cap on & shake the heck out of it & continue to shake it occasionally while drinking it). I personally could not eat the oatmeal or pudding & only tried 1 of the jello's...didn't like. Soups...not so much either but those seemed to really be a matter of taste. The only kind everyone in my group liked was the cream of chicken. They have a few new things since I was on the program so I can't help w/those. How long do you have to be on product? Lisa

Hate to say this but the only things that tasted ok was the prepackaged chocolate drinks when poured in glass and the protein bars.  Have been surviving on these for the past twelve days.

Now it's been nearly four years since I had to do the pre-op diet, so I haven't tasted some of the prepared shakes. I liked the chili and spaghetti OK, the cream of chicken soup was OK, the chicken noodle soup was OK, you could mix the cream of chicken and the chicken noodle together, they were OK, the cappucino was OK, I used some SF syrups in them and made them both hot and cold (they made a nice cold frappucino type drink with ice ... try with sf caramel or sf hazelnut or vanilla); caramel nut bars good too. Can't remember all the bars; like I said, it's been awhile.

I liked the oatmeal, puddings, chix soup, spaghetti, and protein bars...the jello was ok too. You can add seasonings to these pre=packaged items to help make them taste better.....I added maple flavoring to the oatmeal and chicken broth (low fat/low sodium) to the soups....you can add oregano to the spaghetti....anything to improve the taste....believe me the two weeks will go fast and you are on them two weeks after too, if you are having RNY ...then it's on to REAL food!

I could not do the oatmeal at all.    I am not a fruit drink person (or wasn't should I say).    They allow you sugar free jello.  So I made the fruit drink up and used that as my cold water for jello. This helped fill me up that first week.  By the second week your stomach shrinks enough that I could not eat an entire box of jello at one sitting.   I did like the chocolate pudding.   The carmel food and a coconut one was good.   I also liked the spaghetti and the chili. The hot chocolate and the cappichuno was good.   I know it's not cheap, but if you get something you did not like, you can always run out there and get a box of something you do like.

You have probably already gotten your items.. but some things I did to make things taste better: If you got the fruit drinks, go to GNC and get a blender bottle with the blender ball in it. It makes all the difference. Mix 2 different flavors together for something different.  Anything tomato based.. cream of tomato soup, chili, even the spaghetti.. I put 2 tablespoons of salsa into it when I ate. I SO looked forward to that salsa by the end. Ha.  If you got any soups and got some of the crunchy soy snacks (BBQ was my fave), they work great as a cracker-type substance.  By the end of the 2 weeks, I was having a hard time getting all the supplements in and also all the fluids. You really start to see how small your stomach gets. Also, I know they don't recommend it.. but I did the last full 24 hours as all liquid so that I would be cleaned out.. if ya know what I mean. Good luck! It's over before you know it.
