I am scheduled for DS surgery May 20th.  Can I get a true opinion on the recovery.  My son graduates on June 8th and we are throwing his party June 28th.  Will I be up to this?  I am having thougths of postponing until August, but really mentally prepared now.   How long is recovery if all goes well?  When are you really back on your feet and feeling normal?

That depends on which surgery you have and if its laproscopic or open.     I had a lot of complications so the first two months were really hard.   But i've seen ppl on here be back to work in just over a week.      Good luck to you. Linda

What surgery are you having? I had LAP RNY.  I was back on my feet, out of the house on small errands within the week.  I wasn't feeling "normal" for 3 weeks.  I had a low-grade fever for the first couple weeks and that kept my energy low.  But I had no other problems.  I stayed on Lortab (liquid pain med) as needed, the first week, but after that, I was ok.  Everybody's tolerance is different.  Some people return to work within 2-3 weeks.  I had never had any surgeries, hospital stays or anything like that prior to my weight loss surgery.  I feel that I recovered relatively easy. Others have been put through the wringer.   You'll get a wide variety of answers on this one.

That is about 6 weeks after the surgery and I think you should be okay. I had Open RNY and went to Vegas on a trip at that point of my recovery. I was able to do a bunch of walking but had to make sure to rest when I needed it.  I dont think I was completely normal but for the most part I was. Suzanne

Grad party should (and I stress should) not be a problem if you have a lot of help.  I wouldn't plan on being on your feet cooking, cleaning, etc.  If all goes well, you can sit and entertain guests being about a month out.   I was like Tina, doing errands and stuff about a week after, but it really took a lot out of me.  I would go to the grocery store then come home for a short nap. I think it will be fine as long as you have help and a back up plan.  You don't want to invite a lot of people then feel bad and have to cancel.
