The surgeon's office called to tell me that my pre-op appt was canceled because they hadn't submitted anything for pre-approval from my insurance.  WTF??  I called them when I had my initial appt.  I was told I was all set.  The coordinator said I was all set....the several times I asked her.  And then - I am not sure who called,  it wasn't the coordinator - says that it will take 6-8 weeks to get approval from my insurance.  She said that since the coordinator was gone she couldn't verify, but maybe she didn't realize it was  or something.  And that MAYBE she did get an approval, but doesn't have it documented.  But regardless I am SOL until at least tomorrow when the coordinator is back and my appt was at 8:00 am. It was after 4 when she called and I immediately called my insurance.  They said that they don't require a pre-approval.  She also checked to see if there was anything submitted and she couldn't find anything.  And now the office is closed for the day. If there is really a 6-8 week wait.  It could be July or August even.  I am not really mad.  I am irked that if that is the case that it wasn't caught before the surgery date was set and got my hopes up.  Disappointing to say the least.

Isn't MMPC where that crazy Bible thumper works?  If so, I would seriously consider having surgery someplace else.

Yeah -  I guess that is who apparently took 2 plus weeks to clear me when he said it would be the next day or so.  I also had another 'catch' earlier when I called to see where things were at and they said that they were just waiting for my lab work to be done.  I had that done weeks before (they told me to have it done within the week when I was given the lab slip and I did it 2 days later) so the results should have been back.  If I hadn't called, I'd still be waiting.  The reason the lab didn't send the results to them, they didn't put down who to send them to.  I contacted the lab, they faxed them right over.   I have been chalking it up to being such a personal and emotional experience and I am being more sensitive.  Getting the call to schedule my surgery date and other appts the same day that they received the all-clear from the sleep doctor sure made up for some of the past things though.  Maybe I am just one of those lucky people who are having the "oops" issues that typically others do not have.   I have worked customer service a long time and no matter how hard you try, there are always those one or two people who end up having chronic accidental mistakes happen to them - bills calculated wrong, payments lost, paperwork left on someones desk, etc.  I may just be one of those people in this case since everyone else gushes over MMPC (in general).

I'm am so sorry for your disappointment.  If you are considering going elsewhere, Dr. Gluck (Life Without Limits) is Muskegon is wonderful.  I chose between the 2 places and I'm going with Dr. Gluck.  Hope you problem is resolved, though.

Hello and I understand your frustration about the insurance deal.  I had a similar incidence but I continued to go to MMPC.  I would not have it any other way.  Dr Foote and most of the staff there are awesome.  Everywhere you go there is usually someone who makes the office look bad.  Just hang in there you will be glad you did. Ok, this is where MMPC sucks.  You need to stay on top of them night and day to make sure things are getting done.  For some reason if you just relax and assume things are as they should be, they throw your case to the side and forget about it.  So, call, call and call again. I had major issues with them regarding insurance issues and didn't stay on top of things.  I was told in April that I would have a surgery date in two weeks.  I didn't have my surgery until the end of October.  If I had stuck with my gut and called them, I would have had things moving. Don't think you are being a pain about this.  It is your life, so make them work for you.  I stuck with them because of how awesome the surgeons and physicians assistants are and it has been well worth it.   Don't give up on them.  Good luck to you! Thanks Jenn!  Tonight my girlfriend reminded me that anything worth while was worth waiting for.   I know it will all get smoothed out....someday.   I think I need to watch your video again! :D

Gwen, I cannot believe you are going through this!  I had my surgery on April 9th and I had called BCBS GM more than once and was always told that they no longer do pre-approvals for this surgery.  You need to stay on top of the docs office! Bernice

Thanks for the info, Bernice.  She said she'd call me first thing Monday....if I don't call her first!  LOL How are you doing and feeling?
