OT - Prayers please... **UPDATE**
I wasn't going to post this, but my son could really use all the prayers he can get. As I have posted before, my DS - Nicholas - has special needs. He is 2 1/2 years old and has a lot of health issues - chronic renal disease, seizure disorder, congenital heart defect, compromised urinary tract - on top of having Down syndrome, hypothyroid disease and is exclusively tube fed. He is very developmentally delayed even for Down syndrome standards, but he is strong and healthy - all things considered.
Yesterday he had a check-up with his [fantastic] kidney dr. The lab work showed that Nicholas' glucose levels have gone from the 70's (normal) to 303 (extremely high). Next week he needs another set of labs drawn to make sure, but he could be diabetic now too. My heart broke receiving the news. I hope it is only a fluke because his little body has been thru so much already. I know it is out of our hands though and that is why he can use all the prayers he can get.
God bless and thank you
***UPDATED 5/6***
We got the news about 5:00 today that Nicholas does NOT have diabetes. After the OP, he had labs drawn and his hemoglobin was really high. His pediatrician called me to break the news - she was pretty positive that he was diabetic and we needed to go in to see the pediatric endocrinologist asap - we went that day. Weird thing happened when we were there though. Nicholas glucose and hemoglobin were normal. The dr explained that something was wrong since it can't change in two days like that. We came home with 2 glucose monitors and have been checking his it 3x a day. On Friday he had repeat labs done. His kidney dr's office called Monday afternoon to tell me that the hemoglobin, insulin & glucose were normal, but there was still another result that wasn't back yet. Today the endocrinologist's office called to get his glucose results. Since they ALL were normal and then with the labs being normal, we do NOT need to go back or poke him anymore!! So I guess there were two fluky labs drawn??? What are the chances?? I really think it was prayers!!
Thank you all SO MUCH!!
God Bless
Hey Gwen,
Just wondering how your little guy was doing? I have my own Nicholas with SN...been at the U trying to figure out his latest "challenge".
Hope your family is doing well....let me know if you ever need to vent or get anything off of your chest. My Nick is almost 16 so I've been through it all from hospital stays to school placement, etc!
Thanks for checking up on Nicholas. He has his blood drawn at a different hospital than where his specialists are (long story) so they have to fax the results over. I wasn't sure if I'd get the results today or not. I am expecting a call tomorrow before they start clinic. The pediatrician didn't sound very hopeful on Friday either. She said to wait and see, but also that the endocrinologists at DeVos are great and we'd be able to get right in to see them. There are a lot of great drs there. We are very lucky to have them so close.....just wish he didn't see so many.
Hope they get to the bottom of your Nick's newest trick soon. I used to think that the drs tried to run when they saw us coming, but I found out that most of them enjoy the challenge. We should compare notes some time.
I need all the help I can get.
Thanks again.
