MY SURGERY DATE IS MAY 12!!   I had my meeting with the sleep dr today.  She wrote a script clearing me for surgery and I took it right over to the surgeon's office.  Before I got home, the coordinator had a message on the machine for me to call back!!!  It seemed like this day would never get here and I really expected another week before getting that call. WOOHOO!!    I go back on Friday for 4 hrs - group dietitian meeting, order food and something else.  I was barely listening at that point.   I wasn't expecting an date so early next month.  I really figured the date would be in June at the earliest. NOW.....it will actually happen on the 12th......Provided the strike at DH's work is over soon!  He found out today that his health insurance will be suspended and we'd have to sign up for Cobra if they are not back to work by the end of the month.  I am pretty sure that the surgery will be rejected if we are on Cobra.  UGGH - so close!!  I will be praying!  A LOT!!

Congratulations on getting a date!  It'll be here before you know it. As for COBRA -- your insurance coverage shouldn't change at all.  It's the same exact coverage you currently have, just that you have to pay both parts of the monthly premiums (your portion and what the employer would normally pay).  Your insurance is the same and you'll likely even keep your same insurance card.  At least, that's how it worked when I worked in HR years ago. Thanks! Thanks for the info too.  I am getting ready to Google it.  The money I have in reserve is for the plastics....I don't want to have  to use that for the surgery.  I am going to have DH call the benefits office and I will call BCBS too - and maybe get something in writing.  I would think that it would be the same coverage, but I don't want to give them a way around it.  Also,  thanks for putting COBRA in all caps.  I *thought* it was - then talked myself in just capital "C".

Yep COBRA is all caps.  It's an acronym for Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. Here's a good website for info http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/cobra.htm
