Hello everyone I am a week into my pre-op diet and have only lost 6lbs is that good or not so good, also I have heard of people going into surgery and coming out not banded because the liver did not shrink enough is there anything I can do to avoid this from happening?  Thanks everyone!

6lbs ain't bad for one week pre-op. Most people I talked to lossed around 20lbs pre +post-op. So your doing fine. Only thing you can do is follow your pre-op diet and that should shrink liver just fine. I also hearde staying away from sugars will help shrink it as well. Lately, I've been hearing more doctors don;t even do pre op diets to shrink livers. I never heard of a doctor not doing the surgery because the liver was too large.

6 lbs in 1 week is great.  when have you ever been able to do that before? The pre-op diet isn't ONLY about shrinking the liver.  It's definitely a factor, but it's also about getting an early jumpstart on establishing new good habits.  I doubt your doctor would open you up on the operating table, check out your liver, then close you back up without doing the surgery.  Just follow the plan and don't cheat and you'll be fine. I worried about the same thing.  You can go to the drug store and pick up some keytone strips because what the preop diet is doing is puts you into ketosis and in the process is shrinking the fat around the liver.  But be sure to follow the diet because it will change your keytones if you don't follow it properly.  It usually takes 3 days for a good keytone.  You don't need to worry if you just follow the preop diet.  Good Luck,
Patti

Let's drop that nasty word "only" from our vocabularies.  "Only"????  Honey, you're doing GREAT!!!  6 lbs is equal to 30 sticks of butter!  Or more than a bag of flour!   Or a nice bag of potatoes!  That's heavy, six pounds!    6 lbs is a wonderful step towards improving your health and every single one of those 6 pounds makes a big difference in the success of and recovery from your surgery.  If dieting were an easy fix, we wouldn't need surgery, would we? Already you're on the track to success.  Saying "only" six pounds undercuts all of your hard work.  So drop that little stinker right now or you'll find yourself "only-ing" your way through your post-op weight loss, too.  Bad, nasty little word!    So keep moving forward and do your best to eat healthy as a pre-op.  Say bye-bye to "only"!  Shout with a big smile "HEY!  LOOK AT ME!! I'VE LOST SIX HUGE POUNDS! WHOOHOO!!"  Heather

I can kind of relate to your frustration! I am on day 11 of my 14 day liquid diet, and for the first 8 days, I lost at least a pound every day, some days 2 or 3 lbs!! Then, the past two mornings when I weighed myself -- nothing! Not a single pound. Not even half of a pound. And damn it, if I am gonna do liquids for 14 days, I at least want to see that scale going down each day!  Maybe tomorrow... *sigh*
