First doctor appointment today

I met w/ my PCP this morning.  She recommended bariatric surgery instead of the lap band.  So I'm going that route.  This is the first day of my journey.  I have a slew of referral papers for tests and a referral to a surgeon.  Dr. Weber in Detroit. I phoned HAP in the parking lot of the doctor's office to see if they'll cover the surgery.  The gal on the phone said yes and she'd mail me a packet.  I already have a sleep study, almost a year of supervised diet and exercise program.  Here it begins. I know I'm far behind so many of you but I have to tell SOMEONE.  I haven't told any family members or friends about my decision yet.  I will in time. Oh, and I just called the doctor's office.  I have to attend a seminar first.  That's next Tuesday.  Here we go!

That first step is a hard one to take.  The courage to begin is what will carry you through the rest of the hoops you'll need to jump through.   I highly recommend starting a journal, blog or whatever --- start writing down your feelings and experiences and every step of the process.  You can go public and do an online blog, or use your profile here on OH - or use a paper journal and let it be private.  It's fun to look back at where you started and how far you've come as you get several months out from surgery.   I started my blog on the very same day that I made the decision to have WLS and I'm glad I did.  It was an 18 month process to get my surgery date and now I can look back and recall those emotions I had to deal with along the way.  And also make sure you take pictures of yourself at every step of the journey -- you might hate the camera now, but take them anyway.  You'll want to see those pictures after you've lost so much weight.  For me, I can really only see the major difference in my weight loss by looking at picture comparisons. Good luck with all your appointments going forward.  We're here to answer any questions you might have.  Just holler. ~Pam
